That’s a bit rude re monotremes being ‘the lowest order of mammals’. While it may be the case that the other mammals split off from a common ancestor which were monotreme-like many millions of years ago (ça 180MY?j , the modern echidna and platypus have had all that time to carry on evolving in their own unique ways. (I seem to remember reading something about this in a Stephen J Gould book decades ago)

I’m not using power tools. My drill is broken so I’ve been doing everything by hand. It really is hard labour, but feels good to achieve it this way.

If I can’t remove the cement, could I put a thin layer on top of the old and do the new layer of bricks on top of that? I know it’s a bodge, but would it work?
