Great news.

nocoolnamesleft · 31/07/2025 20:04

Another little domino. Every little helps.

ArabellaScott · 31/07/2025 20:04

' Basketball England’s updated policy confirms that participation in the female category is open only to those who are biologically female at birth. There are no exceptions to this rule.'

Boom.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 31/07/2025 20:22

Step by step returning to fairness, science and inclusion of women in women's sport. 👋

Ereshkigalangcleg · 31/07/2025 20:35

All the sport dominos are falling this week!

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 31/07/2025 20:37

Excellent news!!

Helleofabore · 31/07/2025 21:39

it is good to see another sporting federation protect female sport.

It would be great if the international basketball federation and all other countries basketball regulators followed suit. I suspect that at least one WNBA ‘star’ would be quickly retiring.

Helleofabore · 31/07/2025 21:39

It would be great for FIFA to be the next announcement

I'm sure I read today that the WNBA were limiting to biological women and would do swab testing.
I agree the particular athlete you are referring to would indeed need to retire...

kateonatinroof2 · 31/07/2025 21:45

Hopefully they don’t start testing like the olympics are supposedly going to do. That wasn’t too good last time. And if they are doing That why women only? And will it mean trans men are ok to play in women’s sports. It all confuses me.

Transmen are female people though. Ie. Female people with. Transgender identity. And if they are not taking testosterone, they are not advantaged at all compared to any other female person.

If they are designating the female events as being for female people only, why wouldn’t they introduce sex testing as the World athletica is? Albeit that WA has clause that allows those already competing to continue with testosterone suppression for some male DSD athletes. But it is important that female people are sex tested to maintain the integrity of a female sports category.

WithSilverBells · 31/07/2025 21:52

This is good news, though I would prefer it if they didn't use the term 'transgender female'. I feel like there is still a little TRA gremlin in there, biding its time.

I keep seeing posts on Twitter shared about it. But it seems to be fake news as I cannot see any official announcement at all. It started circulating a month or so ago.

outofdate · 31/07/2025 22:03

@Helleofabore
Yes I know exactly who you are referring to in the WNBA.
When I brought this player up a couple of years ago I had a pile on and my post was deleted. We can only hope…

puffyisgood · 31/07/2025 22:51

what, the 6'9" wife beater with the bass voice and no female secondary sex characteristics whatsoever? I refuse to accept that this person could be anything other than all woman.

What is confusing?

The organisation will have rules about who can play on the womans teams. It could include testing if clubs choose to fund it.

Women sport will be open to all women including TM just closed to all men.

Under general sporting rules TM who take "doping" banned substances would be excluded from any womens teams which test already. TM who take "doping" banned substances may be excluded from mixed sex teams who test if she breaks their hormone rules.

People who meet olympics standards know which sex they are. The olympics is all about the physical body. So women in top level sports would investigate why they are not having a normal reproductive cycle.

In the UK parents of girls can and should bring their child to a GP and be referred on for investigations if they are not going through a "normal" puberty.

So testing could prove helpful to people who had medical complications from DSDs but were not aware of their condition.
