Cycling - challenge to UCI rules

Just came across this and hadn't seen a thread. Hopefully the UCI hold strong and appeal the ruling but wouldn't be surprised if they shrug their shoulders and go along with it. Hate the way the argument is always misrepresented...transwomen were never banned, they were told to compete in the correct sex category.

These men are tenacious narcissists with the backing of a bunch of captured bureaucrats.

It's worrying that a court would rule this way. But I do think there is a lot more actually known now about the advantages men have in sport so have more hope that a higher court will rule in women's favour than I would have a few years ago.

Ah, cycling. Famously a great sport for preventing cheating. And providing equal opportunities for women?
Still, this year there is at least a tour de France femmes, for the third time (it started in 2022 after various half hearted efforts). 9 stages to the men's 21.
the prize money for the men's race is about 500,000 euros. Women's race is 50,000 euros.

I'm not sure how this will work really - does the Belgian courts decision just apply to this Belgian cyclist? All Belgian cyclists? All cyclists? What if the team, race or cyclist isn't Belgian?

"...The judge stated that the conditions are "disproportionate, lacking scientific evidence, and unrealistic."

A dispiriting article, full of the usual lies, there is scientific evidence, he wasn't banned from the sport, just now required to compete in the correct category, no men in the women's sporting category, you can't get more realistic than that. 🤬

Belgium is captured, unfortunately.

Fucking hell. Maybe it’s daft that the sport thing makes me angrier than a lot of other issues, but I think it’s because it’s so blatant, so ridiculous and such a straightforward continuation of the misogyny I experienced as a young sports competitor. I presume the Belgian law is more misogynistic than the Equality Act here. We are fucking lucky to have it.

PermanentTemporary · 27/07/2025 08:16

Here we go. Belgian gender law:

Gender law
The Belgian Gender Act of 2007 combats certain forms of discrimination and hate speech at the federal level.
The Gender Act covers the following gender-related protected characteristics:
Gender
Pregnancy
Medically assisted reproduction
Childbirth
Breastfeeding
Maternity
Family responsibilities
Gender identity
Gender expression
Gender characteristics
Medical or social transition
The Institute for the equality of women and men is the competent Institution with authority on the Gender Act.

Two fucking fingers to that.

I think the only route there is to countersue for discrimination due to ‘gender characteristics’ - like having a FEMALE FUCKING BODY. Hope someone in the Belgian women’s cycling team or in the UCI is angry.

Wanking twatbadging COCKS.
