Cambridgeshire CC passes motion in support of transgender people as Supreme Court ruling has "restricted their rights"

The motion referenced the recent Supreme Court ruling that decided that under the Equality Act 2010 ‘sex’ means biological sex and that ‘woman’ refers to a person born female and ‘man’ refers to a person born male. It said this ruling had “significantly impacted the legal recognition of trans and non-binary individuals, restricting their rights and exacerbating discrimination”.

Cllr Whelan said her motion was designed to support all people across Cambridgeshire, but focused on a small group she said were currently receiving a “disproportionate amount of repression and hate”. She read a letter to the meeting from a transgender person who said simply by existing they were being “called a threat, a danger, a problem to be solved”.

Cllr Whelan added that people who take rights away from one group of people “then take them away from everyone”. She said the motion offered the county council the chance to show its support and that it cares for “not just trans men, trans women, and non-binary people, but to every single person in this county”.

A very special type of woman … the most oppressed type of woman ever.

The TwiX bio photo is a corker.

Pretty blue, pink and white one on the twitter profile.

Sorry I didn't realise there were 2 links, I only clicked on the Council one. Duh 🤯. I don't think she's 'trans' but she is in the arts, so that explains a lot.

Oops. Concentrated on the one on the right without looking at Alison!

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 18/07/2025 00:11

So they've passed a motion stating that they don't respect UK law.

Perhaps they should resign as councillors if they aren't willing to uphold British democracy.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 18/07/2025 00:12

Also, the ruling has not impacted the legal recognition of non binary people in any way because non binary gender identities are not recognised in UK law and never have been.

Oh bloody hell. I live here. What about my rights and my female children’s rights?

So embarrassing. My husband votes for these clowns. 😞 I keep trying to explain to him that they're not eighteenth-century classical liberals.

My parents agree with me about this issue but they still refuse to believe that the Lib Dems are no longer sensible centrists.

‘Legal clarity does not equate to hostility.’ Excellent point made by one of the councillors whose brain clearly hasn’t fallen out.

Interesting to note the language used by the unicorn brigade in relation to the SC ruling, ‘misjudged & misguided.’ Hilarious really to see the usual suspects, slight oddballs who’ve garnered themselves a smidgeon of power, dissing the highest court in the land. Emboldened by endless DEI sessions with rainbow lanyards. Desperate to align themselves with the oh so vulnerable stunning & brave rainbow crowd. But as usual just the usual cliches about not being able to exist.

They have marches, banners, flags, repainted zebra crossings, rainbows on police cars, on primary school entrances, staff in huge public organisations wearing rainbow pins & lanyards. Women, & occasionally men, losing reputations & careers for stating biological reality. An ideology that has made fools & cowards of so many.

Lobby groups like Stonewall lied so successfully that these organisations believed self ID was the law, not the 2010 EA. Women have been questioned by the police for posting gender critical tweets. Our own PM & many of his cabinet tied themselves in knots, too weak to state the definition of a woman, & that it didn’t include men. The list is endless.

My arse they can’t exist. For a tiny group they’ve captured pretty much everything.

I would quite like the council to do something about the antisocial behaviour that is rife in the county at the moment: almost all of it from men. This is affecting tens of thousands of people's lives on a daily basis ... but let's gripe about the poor oppressed trans minority and the slippery slope to imaginary fascism instead.

Cosmosforbreakfast · 18/07/2025 13:47

Men pass motion to trample all over women's rights. What a surprise......

I really think men need to sit this one out.

It is literally none of their damn business.

ThatCyanCat · 18/07/2025 14:39

Well if they start trying to allow men into women's public facilities, I hope someone makes good use of JKR's fund. Why are women's rights the only issue where the law is optional and indeed shouldn't exist at all if it can't be magically upheld with a 100% perfect success rate now and forever? We know people under 18 sometimes manage to buy alcohol and people sometimes get away with running red lights, we don't then pass motions or laws saying it's fine to let 12 year olds buy vodka or red lights are just a suggestion.

Forget the Lib Dems......they are almost as bad as the Greens. They are really are detached from reality in their liberal, nicey - nicey ivory tower.

Not that detached. As classical liberals they are neo-liberal capitalists in tooth and claw.

GoldenGate · 17/07/2025 19:33

What rights did they lose? Apart from making quotas on Scottish boards?

No rights lost. But TiF (transmen) held on to some rights re maternity which they would have lost had sex been defined as 'certificated' because they would then be men and men do not get maternity rights because men do not get pregnant.
That looks like a TiM in the photo. The smirk is a dead giveaway.

Thanks, I did wonder but didn't want to jump to conclusions about the entire bunch.
I thought the one on the left as you look at it was a TiF? But probably not. The one in the middle is a man, but the one on the right has the typical smirk.
Must be beautifully filtred is all I can say!

oviraptor21 · 20/07/2025 11:08

The one on the right is seeking funding for medical transition.
