Not sure if this was discussed at the time but I just read a summary of last month's falling out on r/trans.

A transman posted about the issues facing ftm people and in particular sexual assault. The post was removed by a mtf mod and the OP was told they were being divisive and another mtf mod told the OP to "stop bitching".

I know it's only petty reddit drama but I find it very telling that men who claim to be women and have special woman brains still manage to act like very male misogynists who work together to silence women.

OP posts:

This bit is heartbreaking -

That we are structurally made to be inferior by our biology combined with the behavior of all of society, and that no amount of testosterone or bottom surgery will fix that fact

No, you are not made to be inferior. Not in the slightest. You are smaller and less physically powerful, but your body can create and nourish life, which sounds a pretty superior thing to me. Every challenging aspect of your female body is about that incredible ability, whether you choose to use it or not.

Being more physically powerful doesn’t make male bodies superior. I feel so sorry the internalised misogyny has young transmen think this way. They are our sisters and they deserve better.

CapeGooseberry · 15/07/2025 08:20

In my experience, gender-critical spaces are full of unconventional women—women who are, ironically, far more unconventional than the women you find in FTM/transmasc communities on Reddit.

But this should be obvious if she took a moment to consider what ‘gender-critical’ meant.

DeanElderberry · 15/07/2025 08:21

Indeed, there is nothing 'ironic' about it.

there's no hierarchy at all! male and female bodies have different functions and abilities, is all.

We were all young and daft at one point. And probably discounted the wisdom of our foremothers.

Absolutely, and being daft and sometimes making regrettable decisions is part and parcel of growing up, which is why we need adults to safeguard kids from silly decisions that could cause them harm. No doubt safeguarding fails happened for earlier generations as well - life was not all rosy - but the level of uninformed cheerleading for pediatric gender medicine, and the silencing of professionals who could see this disaster unfolding in real time is on another scale.

I watched a clip the other day of a bunch of children who'd climbed some building to mount a protest. The children huddled on a ledge, some hugging each other.

A group of adults stood in the street, chanting that the children were loved.

It was the most cultist and topsyturvy thing I've seen in a while.

A group of vulnerable children encouraged into a risky position, while adults egged them on and chanted love-bombing mantras at them.

ArabellaScott · 15/07/2025 08:46

It was like watching some child sacrifice cult.

Don't know if this has been confirmed, but I was told that the kid doing the climbing was one of Jolyon Maugham's trans 'sons'.

ArabellaScott · 15/07/2025 10:09

'trans kids deserve better' have a post on their Insta that says 'we protect us'.

From a group of children, this is heartbreaking.

Where are their adults? Their caregivers? The people who are actually supposed to be protecting them? Chanting mantras? Sourcing them off-label drugs that are banned by the NHS? Grifting to make money out of their children's situation?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 15/07/2025 10:11

All of those.

I do feel sorry for them, but it’s just a demonstration of how much misogyny is at the heart of the whole movement, it runs throughout like a message in a stick of rock. From the men, from the women, from the “allies”.

As a teen I was told feminism was done, we won, we have equality. That to be feminist now was redundant, man hating, uncool and unattractive

Yeah, not sure who you were listening to. I heard it from plenty of younger women from about the mid 90s.
When rape was still legal in marriage. And I used to sometimes think we 2nd wavers had a) wasted our time and b) done dirty by the people spouting such twaddle and disinformation.

It is not easy to counter thousands of years of patriarchal history, entrenched social attitudes, and even instinctive self preservation that means people pay more attention to men. It was never going to be a quick and easy win.

Amazing that some silly spat on a minor trans subreddit gets more attention on this subforum than the historic decriminalisation of abortion amendment. It's almost like this isn't about women's rights at all 😮

No, no..that can't be right 🤔

What was someone saying upthread about the TIMs wanting to shut this particular conversation down?

A man arrives to tell the silly women what they should be talking about.

DeanElderberry · 15/07/2025 12:24

If men didn't take the time and trouble to tell us how to do feminism how would we ever know?

bloody Norah, RTFT.

We ARE discussing the appalling treatment of transmen by the trans community

Perhaps you should spend your energy supporting them instead of scolding us?

WhereYouLeftIt · 15/07/2025 12:41

A flippant aside I know, but this post on that Reddit thread made me smile.

Sometimes I feel desperately sorry for transmen, sometimes I just think 'you made your bed, lie in it'. Or move back to the sex realist side of the fence and make a new bed.

I'm not convinved that in the case of trans men it is just a case of making beds and lying in them. They're a different demographic from certain men lumped under the 'trans woman' umbrella (not saying they're all like that) - but we know the three initials and what they mean. It's no coincidence that amongst the largest numbers transitioning in their younger years are autistic girls. 'Transition' seems to have been sold to this demographic is the catch-all 'cure' for their feelings of isolation, exclusion and any unhappiness they might be feeling.

If I were in a state of angst like that, always feeling like the 'odd' kid or bullied for feeling different, and someone came along promising a magic cure-all for that sad state of affairs, I'm not at all sure I wouldn't seize it with both hands. (I was just a 'goth', which does nothing harmful to your body). Suddenly you'll be part of a 'community'; part of a rainbow family; you'll be wanted; you'll have a collective sense of identity rather than being the solitary weird kid. (It's necessary to point out that I'm not referring to neurodiverse people as 'weird' but their oft-vocalised feelings about themselves and how they always felt different, such as in the very moving account of Chris Packham).

These vulnerable young people have been sold a lie, one only setting them up for a lot more unhappiness later down the line once they realise transitioning wasn't the solution to their angst after all. All I can say on that score is thank the gods for Hilary Cass and the part she has played in stopping an irreversible path of medication for such kids.

As for those who sold and pedalled the lie, and who demonised, lambasted, harassed and cancelled women who expressed deep concerns about this, (looking at you, Mermaids), their actions are unforgiveable and I want nothing more than to see them made culpable. Every individual who has pushed a child along the medical pathway - without exception.

i think for transwomen we need to expand the definition of "clothes" for men (etc) so that cross dressers etc can just get on with it without the utter fiction that they really think they're women (unless they honestly do, but that must be a tiny minority)

for transmen we need to stop the whole "women are weak/supposed to be sexy/for making sandwiches" nonsense

And stop "gendering" toys and so on for children.

Agree entirely with this.

And after all that push against pinkification in the noughties. What the hell happened?

Tripole · 15/07/2025 14:47

Yes to "women's clothes" being acceptable for men. I can dress my daughters in whatever I like but I don't feel comfortable putting my son in a dress (and I'm not about to start the gender revolution with him). There should be nothing wrong with a man wearing a dress or skirt but for some reason there is. Maybe because we inherently know that, for many, it's a sexual thing. But maybe it wouldn't be a sexual thing if it wasn't forbidden.

Tripole · 15/07/2025 14:48

I don't understand why what you said was deleted @Brefugee , was it because of the mention of cross dressers?
