Bristol council on its ongoing mission to fuck over women

“Bristol City Council is committed to providing and promoting inclusive services for everyone in Bristol, including trans and gender-diverse people.
“Our ambition is to create a fair, safe, accessible and inclusive city where everyone feels they belong and has a voice and an equal opportunity to succeed and thrive.”
however everyone having a voice clearly doesn’t include women as some cllrs walked out when Wendy Stephenson said: “I present this statement on the third anniversary of a silver motion that stated the council resolves to recognise that trans men are men and trans women are women.
“Following the Supreme Court judgement, the council must withdraw the motion and its trans-inclusion and gender identity policy.
“The negative impact of the council’s position has been felt by women across Bristol”

unfortunately given that it’s Bristol, the Brighton of the south west, I’m not remotely surprised

Politicians walk out of meeting as pleas made for council to reverse support for trans people

Absolute toddler tantrums. Thank you to the women who speak out for women and girls' safety. Shame on those defying the law. No kindness for women and girls. We are not taking that shite anymore. The Ruling was crystal clear.

I have met Wendy and she is amazing. Well done her!

helof · 11/07/2025 15:50

absolute idiots all of them. They’re going down with a sinking ship. The truth is back out there and it’s undeniable. Stop appeasing a tiny number of loud men instead of protecting women. (the bio kind obviously)

she’s hard of thinking if she actually believes transwomen are women and trans men are men.

That was the councils statement that she wants them to withdraw

maslinpan · 11/07/2025 15:55

Wendy is quoting the original motion not saying that she agrees with it.

You know the old saying 'Measure twice and cut once'? I think it applies to responding to posts too Smile

helof · 11/07/2025 16:08

oh god, my bad. I’m usually good at reading properly too. I read Bristol and TWAW and had an “i’m so sick of this shit moment”. My patience is wearing thin and it’s hot!

It's OK, I think we probably all guessed it was the opposite of what you actually thought!Smile

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 11/07/2025 16:18

The first councillor quoted was a, surprise, surprise, Green. If they're elected officials they've got no business walking out when a member of the public speaks, they're suppose to be representing the public not shunning them. 🤬

It's OK. I had to read it twice. We've all got so used to reading the opposite about this issue.

Bristol City Council is committed to providing and promoting inclusive services for everyone in Bristol

Why do they bother telling these lies? They must know everyone can see how dishonest they are.

TheOtherRaven · 11/07/2025 16:34

Bristol being dragged kicking and screaming back towards sanity. They and Leeds are going to be the goal posts: when they get it, it's pretty much done and dusted.

Really needs to be that people who are this prejudiced to any particular group are not able to get into positions of public duty where equality and impartiality and actually serving all parts of the general public is a fundamental capacity requirement.

Haulage · 11/07/2025 16:39

Yes, I agree. Publicly demonstrating their inability to abide by rules of impartiality in public office should preclude them holding any public service role in future.

ArabellaScott · 11/07/2025 17:14

I'm getting really fucking sick of men telling me that 'trans rights' have no impact on women.

TheOtherRaven · 11/07/2025 17:55

You're left with two options really when they come out with that line:

Are they seriously that delusional regarding the huge steaming pile of evidence? Which would render them really too unwell to do the job.

Or do they actually mean no impact that they care about ?

Which would be male supremacism. And let's discuss that they don't believe that women being raped, assaulted, excluded, compelled to obedience to men, upto and including being forced to undress for men in the workplace is a problem so long as the man is having a good time?

And let's put that fairly to the voters for a bit of informed consent.

It is of course the second; they're perfectly well aware. They just do not have the guts to admit that they're for it, and quite enjoy the powerbalance and giving women a bit of punishment and putting in their place. Which makes it clear really that they know it is wrong.

I am getting really sick of councillors who seem to think they have been elected to put on pantomime shows.

How can they possibly think they are competent to be a councillor if their response to a resident is to "walk out".

Sadly it is not surprising that Bristol Council is still behaving like this, but I am beginning to think councillors should have job descriptions and a line manager.

ie all letters and email from constituents must be answered within 24 hours. Personal politics should not be the basis on which they carry out work at the council for their constituents. They should not use their position as a local councillor to promote their pet projects.

If a resident of Bristol is making the point that the Supreme Court of the UK has made a ruling on the meaning of the word sex in the EA then they need to get on and implement it.

Is it possible to deselect Councillors?

I know there is a process for MPs.

Inclusive unless your a woman clearly

Toseland · 11/07/2025 18:14

Flowers to all the women in Bristol having those people as councillors and expecting fair treatment - that is disgraceful. Name and shame!

No, even the process for MPs is a recent innovation. It is time consuming and costly so I doubt it would be worth the while extending it to councillors.

But they have to gave re election at some point and most of them are vulnerable as council elections have a low turnout.

I’m going to bang my local drum - Brighton is the instigator and patient zero of all this.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 12/07/2025 11:11

These people don't respect British democracy, the rule of law, free speech or women's right to exist.

They aren't fit for public office.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 12/07/2025 11:49

I think I if I lived in Bristol I would be asking for a copy of the Member Code of Conduct and the relevant complaints procedure.

Identify as living in Bristol, they love to wang on about how inclusive they are so surely they must be inclusive of transresidents?

MarieDeGournay · 12/07/2025 12:30

I don't often think of Margaret Thatcher, thankfully, but as I visualised that councillor walking out/running away from the truth, I wanted someone to quote at him the Bristolian dialect equivalent of Thatcher's 'He's frit! frit!'😃
