Figured that this would be more appropriate in here rather than the anti-trans forum. It's all kinda scary, particularly with Reform burgeoning and Labour larping as diet Reform.

Inside Europe’s billion-dollar anti-gender movement

A new report reveals how groups critical of so-called gender ideology across Europe raised $1.18 billion to target abortion, sex education and LGBT...

The term — initially rooted in the idea that gender is a social construct — has become a catch-all for right-wing groups targeting what they see as a progressive agenda that includes everything from access to abortion to sex education to LGBTQ+ rights.

The fact that people who don't understand what "gender-critical" actually means use the term to describe something entirely different does not mean that the term is a "catch-all" for it.

What a weird thing to lie about... haven't read the rest as this lie is a red flag.

letsallchant · 27/06/2025 13:18

That is bundling a lot of stuff together - eg tighter abortion limits which very few feminists of any variety would support - with anti LGBTQ+ moves but being very vague about what they are. Plus I would want to see more actual evidence and reasoning to support the 'if you dig deep enough, it's all funded by Hungarian right wingers' assertion. So another of the 'right wing conspiracy' pieces. Anyone else still waiting for that cheque to arrive?

potpourree · 27/06/2025 13:23

While the anti-gay rights and gender movement in Europe is diverse

Although they seem to acknowledge that the gender moment is anti-gay rights... but assume this is down to poor communication skills.

The long and short of it is, if you believe that anti-abortion groups are driven by a belief that gender stereotypes are harmful, then you have a LOT of learning to do about what misogyny looks like.

The genderists are so desperate to claim that these misogynists really identify as feminists - - it's actually insane.

PermanentTemporary · 27/06/2025 13:25

Fair enough that feminists in the UK and elsewhere need to stay constantly vigilant about moves to damage women’s rights, and that when progressives get sucked into ideas that damage women’s rights, it’s a dangerously easy gift to those with regressive attitudes to sex and sexuality.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 27/06/2025 13:26

There isn't a single example in that article that is actually 'anti-gender'.

There is a spectacular example of a lying graph, though.

The UN and various euro agencies have been tracking the anti-gender movement for years - there's a substantial wikipedia article on it if you want to read further.

In terms of funding, my automatic assumption was the US religious right (ADF, Heritage, FRC and other dreadful orgs), but apparently it's more than that:

https://www.aidsmap.com/news/may-2021/whos-financing-anti-gender-movement-europe

Who’s financing the ‘anti-gender’ movement in Europe?

Over half of funding for anti-gender actors in Europe appears to come from within Europe itself, with significant amounts of money also flowing from the US and the Russian Federation, according to information shared at the European Parliament in March....

You're claiming that a European Parliament forum is "lying"?

The 'anti-gender movement' refers to a variety of socially conservative / religious right groups that are attempting to regress women's and LGBTQ rights.

Ok then OP - name one thing that you believe the 'anti-gender movement' has as a common belief, and I'll tell you if that's generally used elsewhere to mean that.

potpourree · 27/06/2025 13:51

But as a PP says, yes it's important to realise what misogynistic movements will pretend they are in order to trick people who can't discern between different sets of beliefs.

This right wing movement undoubtedly exists and is terrifying.

It has nothing to do with feminist objections to gender or being 'gender critical'.

'anti-gender' is a complete misnomer - they love gender just as much as the TRA. I think the last pope or the one before that was responsible for the terminology.

typed out a response but Pencils said it better.

OvaHere · 27/06/2025 14:12

Which ever way you slice it at the end of the day it boils down to men trying to force team women into a narrative that benefits their goals whether that's religious conservatism or pseudo religious trans activism.

What is it that most women actually want? Neither I suspect would be high on the list of answers. Yet we are constantly presented with this 'them or us' choice. In reality it's a 'choice' of one set of male rules vs another.

Shedmistress · 27/06/2025 14:14

Bee, I did ask on your other thread but you've obviously not seen it otherwise you'd have answered.

What is it about the gents toilets that you don't like? There are cubical, urinals, sinks, paper towels/driers so seem to have everything needed in a mixed sex toilet so what's the issue?

Ps. Most women's rights groups are funded by £5 here and there. From all sorts of women, many leftwing ones. It's the behemoth of the Trans Rights movements that are funded by governments and agencies and pharmaceuticals. You've got it all completely the wrong way round, again.

Brefugee · 27/06/2025 14:17

Figured that this would be more appropriate in here rather than the anti-trans forum.

oooh, is there an anti-trans forum here? where is it.

Or are you being a bit dim and conflating Pro-Woman with Anti-Trans.
The logical progression from that is that transness and pro-transness is anti-woman.

You SURELY don't think that?

Brefugee · 27/06/2025 14:19

also: this should be in the other forum. This is feminism chat and everyone wanted the awful gender stuff elsewhere.

This is concerning "that awful gender stuff" so please ask MN to move it.

I can ask them to move it if you don't want to @BeeSouriante

PurpleChrayn · 27/06/2025 14:20

What a shoddy piece of journalism.

BeeSouriante · 27/06/2025 14:34

me: check out this article on the burgeoning threat to women and LGBTQ rights from the socially conservative / religious right, this really is something that people should be aware of

mumsnet: trans..conspiracy..trans..trans..trans..waaaa

As Judith Butler said "trans-exclusionary activists will play no part in the contemporary fight against fascism". Hell, I think they'll welcome in a return to the bad old days as long as it hurts trans people.

OP posts:
Shedmistress · 27/06/2025 14:36

Bee, there IS no billions of euros being spent on this. It's all fake news.

So, back to my question, what is it you don't like about the gents?

VimesandhisCardboardBoots · 27/06/2025 14:36

"mumsnet: trans..conspiracy..trans..trans..trans..waaaa"

You do get that there's no hive-mind here. There's a bunch of individuals, all with individual opinions.

no - you said you were putting it here not the anti-trans board.

Clue: there is no anti trans board. So fix that and I'll read that pile of foetid dingo's kidneys. Deal?

EdithStourton · 27/06/2025 14:44

rather than the anti-trans forum.
Did you mean 'pro-women' and against the unnecessary medication of children forum'?

If you wanna be trans, fill your boots - until it comes to vulnerable teens and adults, blokes in pink leggings convicted of sexual offences being sent to women's prisons, and men pinching women's sporting prizes.

According to Andrew Sullivan in the New York Times:

Nonetheless, the money has poured into gay, lesbian and transgender groups in the past decade. Charitable funding for such groups totaled $387 million in 2012, <a class="break-all" href="https://archive.is/o/CKaLx/scholarworks.indianapolis.iu.edu/server/api/core/bitstreams/f86da483-3a88-44d7-9b02-9f97d70e1219/content" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">according to the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy’s Equitable Giving Lab. By 2021, it was $823 million. L.G.B.T.Q.+ organizations also <a class="break-all" href="https://archive.is/o/CKaLx/philanthropy.indianapolis.iu.edu/news-events/news/_news/2024/less-than-one-out-of-every-500-dollars-donated-in-us-goes-to-support-lgbtq-organizations.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">saw their assets grow 76 percent from 2019 to 2021 — around double the size of their increase in donations. A group like GLAAD — founded in 1985 to combat anti-gay media bias in the depths of the AIDS epidemic — saw its funding increase sixfold between 2014 and 2023. The Human Rights Campaign has also seen revenues soar in the past decade.
