Gender critical group protests against Welsh Governments ‘failure’ to implement Supreme Court ruling

A protest aimed at highlighting the Welsh Government’s “inaction” since the Supreme Court’s ‘What is a woman?’ ruling in April is due to take place outside the Senedd.

Members of the gender critical Women’s Rights Network (WRN) in Wales will gather outside the Welsh Parliament in Cardiff Bay at noon on Tuesday June 24.

They say they will make the point that 70 days have elapsed since the highest court in the UK ruled that ‘woman’, ‘man’ and ‘sex’ should be given their ordinary biological meaning in the Equality Act 2010 – yet the Welsh Government is still ‘considering’ the impact of the judgment and its policies remain unchanged.

Just happened across this on a web page, so thought I would post!

Maybe more details elsewhere.

Thanks for the heads up, I'm off tomorrow, so I might be able to go along and lend my support, the reply I got from my SM regarding the matter was rubbish, it shows they're not even considering complying with the law.

ArabellaScott · 23/06/2025 19:18

More power to them.

If that's true then someone should get the newspaper to correct the story.

Cathy Larkman of WRN said: ”We are so frustrated with the Welsh Government. It has been over two months since the judgment, yet they are just kicking the legal can down the road.

It seems strange they would quote someone and give their name if they have made it up?!

Do you know her? If so perhaps you could alert her.

Small group of WRN will be there apparently

WelshSerafina · 23/06/2025 23:13

Wales WRN are delivering a letter to the First Minister Eluned Morgan tomorrow from 12 midday. A group are delivering it and will hold banners - they are going to attend regularly to flag up how many days it’s been since the judgment but still no action from Welsh Govt.

Anyone who wants to come is welcome too, it’s not a big organised event like last time. The intention is to be like a persistent toothache for WG.

I'm aways being told I'm a pain, my time has come, I'll use my skill for good. 😁

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 24/06/2025 11:46

I'm gutted, I'm not going to be there. There was a bus by me that was suppose to turn up at 11.15 which would have got me there at 11.45 but it was a no show, I was on the stop at 11 and I finally left at 11.40, so I didn't miss it, it just didn't show up. This is why people don't use public transport, I'm all dress up and nowhere to go. 🤬

Total sympathy.

This has happened to me, not on some supermarket tedious need, but something important.

I hope you treated yourself for having been stood up in this way.

I sulked all day but I've not long come back from shopping and I brought myself some chocolate eclairs, (they didn't have Tunnocks) and I'm going to demolish both of them now. 😁
Thanks for asking.

Welsh Government ‘disobeying Supreme Court trans ruling’

The Welsh Government has been accused of disobeying the Supreme Court gender judgment.

A human resources document for the devolved administration on “trans inclusion” continues to claim “trans women are women”.

That is despite the country’s highest court ruling in April that transgender women are not legally women.

Considering the Senedd has being going out of it's way to hire members of the 'marginalised' communities, just because they're marginalised, for years in all of the public sector, they're not going to change their stance until they're forced to do so. I hope one of the women's right's organisation take them to court soon, it'll be the only way to get them to comply with the law. 🤬

Ereshkigalangcleg · 13/07/2025 12:28

When it first came out I think they they (via someone influential) said they were surprised by the ruling but would implement it. It looks like they’ve been convinced by the TRA element that they don’t have to adhere to it.

Going to be interesting if the Welsh Government sticks with this line after the EHRC final guidance drops.

Elections May next year and Welsh Labour are in a fight for their lives against Reform and Plaid. It will be the most watched Senedd election of all time.

Do Welsh Labour want to go into the election saying women are not real and defying the ruling? Brave move if so. Because people are going to notice finally.

This will also result in a fight with Starmer and Westminister as well as it is pretty clear that Labour leadership as a whole as whole want to escape from the gender debate and pretend it never happened. Biology is back and no one wants to admit they forgot women were real for years. Hence the way Streeting is handling things and the recent crisis inside LGBT Labour etc [for which see this thread].

Welsh Labour have managed to get away with things because people don't keep an eye on Wales. The SNP have been under far more scrutiny over their position on the Ruling. Also a key element is Plaid are just as deluded on gender as Welsh Labour which means there is a grim consensus.

Welsh Women's groups have the receipts though so when attention shifts which will be happening in 2026 the fallout could be big. Groups have been threatening legal action in Scotland. Wales will be next I think if the government keep this up.

Welsh Govt Cabinet Minister has met with WRN Wales, (clearly under protest) after they served a ‘70 days since the Supreme Court judgement’ letter. She played the ‘waiting for the EHRC card’.

Love the persistent toothache approach, although that is more applicable to the Welsh Labour Govt who really do appear to be trying to keep up with the SNP in their blind obedience to the TWAW cause. Previously entirely reasonable SMs have blanked party colleagues they've known for years and campaigned alongside, all to appease the chaps. But so pleased that WRN are keeping on keeping on. Thanks wimbats!✊

Tick Tock.

This denial plan can't work any more. It isn't working for the SNP and can't work in Wales forever either.

Especially when Starmer now sees gender stuff as something to be avoided.

And the Senedd elections are coming.

Thanks for the heads up, are there any details on the Saturday protest, my last attempt to join in was thwarted by the 304 not turning, I want to get it right this time. 😁

PS Jane Hutt it's not about being 'inclusive' and 'compassionate' it's about following the laws of the land.

Jones was always one of the most vocal Tories about gender stuff. With her being the face of Reform in Wales looks even more that gender will be a focus in 2026 elections. Welsh Labour will have to work out what they think.
