Following Baroness Bertin's review, the Crime and Policing Bill will be amended to criminalise it.

There's cross party support for the amendment.

Good

Good news! Happy to see Parliament acting sensibly to promote women’s safety.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 19/06/2025 11:00

That is very good news. I watched a teen drama recently (don’t judge me) and the male romantic lead kept putting his head around the base of the female lead’s throat. I hated it. The sooner this is shifted back outside the Overton window the better

Thelnebriati · 19/06/2025 11:02

FFS, since strangulation is now illegal I'd stupidly assumed strangulation porn would change category. I'm such an idiot.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 19/06/2025 11:40

You'd have thought so, wouldn't you. But at least this should bring the laws back in sync.

Excellent news.

Hoardasurass · 19/06/2025 12:16

Hmm, that's good, but it is the last part of the article that disturbs me. There's going to be harsher sentences for crimes motivated by someone's sexuality and disabilities (which is good), but they've added transgender identity and there's no mention of sex. So their ignoring sex again but sliding transgender identity in.
I've added screenshot of the part of the article below

That needs keeping an eye on. I'd guess the majority of times women are murdered the motivation involves their sex.

Augarden · 19/06/2025 12:26

Excellent. There is no safe way to strangle someone, and this was never considered a normal activity before people's brains were rotted by pornography.

TheCatsTongue · 19/06/2025 13:17

What in practice does the ban actually do?

I suspect that all that will happen is if someone is arrested (for unrelated crimes) the police will spend most of their time searching digital devices for any porn that contains strangulation seeking a charge.

They probably won't be doing anything to cut off the source, you need to get people to stop producing it.

This is great!

Unpoliceable. But great
