What a good idea!

And I assume they mean real women this time- no small print!

Artists impression of Brook House showing a brick tower block with protruding white balconies and in the foreground are bushy trees

Women-only tower block in Acton to open next summer

Brook House in west London will be a "UK first" in providing homes exclusively for women.

Apparently not

WhistleBlower8 · 17/06/2025 07:01

What a fantastic idea! Hopefully it'll be a safe haven for actual women.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 17/06/2025 07:10

Yes it would but sadly it isn’t.

another example of how we’re going to have to challenge everytime this happens. It’s so bloody wearying

So a block of flats for women and any men who want to gain access.

I mean it's illegal, anyway, but it's also the most stupid idea I've heard since Isla Bryson.

tripleginandtonic · 17/06/2025 07:11

It's going to get diluted quite quickly though once you factor in partners and the fact that male children can inherit the tenancy.

ArabellaScott · 17/06/2025 07:12

'The scheme for 102 flats will be available to single female tenants at low social rents for those who face inequality, abuse and disadvantages in the housing market.
Men will only be able to live in the block if they become a tenant's partner or if they are the adult child of a female tenant and inherit the tenancy.
Transgender women, including people intending to undergo gender reassignment, will be allowed, but men who cross-dress, transgender men, and anyone with a known history of male violence against women or children will not.'

Fuckin H.

myplace · 17/06/2025 07:14

Surely it will be now, because of the SC ruling? It can’t claim to be women only if it isn’t.

And that Landlordzone article sounds a bit muddled. I wonder whether ‘transgender women’ means ‘women with a trans identity’ in this case?

Whatever, I don’t think it will feel particularly female focused by the time adult sons and partners are there. I’m pleased that women will have an edge though, security wise.

It’s only for single women without male children

oh and any bloke with lady feelings of course

Surely the status of a single woman without male children might change? Unless post menopause or they’ve checked for infertility? Do they get booted out if pregnant with the wrong sex?

That was my initial reaction, but only men living with their mothers when she dies will inherit, and vacancies will go to women so it will regularly top up with women. Iyswim.

ArabellaScott · 17/06/2025 07:18

Article says male children can inherit.

This is the landlord. Interesting idea, founded by a suffragist:

Ive read somewhere (trying to find where) that you get asked to leave if that happens

I thought they were doing away with the inheriting of social housing. Especially in London.

Conxis · 17/06/2025 07:21

Surely they’re going to have to change their criteria as a matter of some urgency now? They’re wide open to men applying now, and legally they’d have to let them or they’ll have a discrimination case as they’re already letting some men (trans women).
This sounds like the same scenario as the WI thread on here

RobinHeartella · 17/06/2025 07:22

Theeyeballsinthesky · 17/06/2025 07:18

So single mothers will be excluded?

That seems like some of the most vulnerable women might be excluded then...?

ArabellaScott · 17/06/2025 07:26

I can't actually find.anything about their use of SSEs in their policies. They must be using them, though.

Mumofteenandtween · 17/06/2025 07:37

“Transgender women, including people intending to undergo gender reassignment, will be allowed, but men who cross-dress, transgender men, and anyone with a known history of male violence against women or children will not.'”

I am wondering if by “transgender women” they mean “people who are transgender and have XX chromosomes”

and by “transgender men” they mean “people who are male and have XY chromosomes”

Not “trans women” and “trans men”.

The sentence makes a lot more sense then.

In which case that is fine.

Mumofteenandtween · 17/06/2025 07:38

For my second one it should be that for transgender men are “people who are trangender and have XY chromosomes.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 17/06/2025 07:39

Here is their transgender policy

https://womenspioneer.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Transgender-Policy.pdf

so as we said women and some men

https://womenspioneer.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Transgender-Policy.pdf

Theeyeballsinthesky · 17/06/2025 07:41

Honestly that policy is a dogs breakfast

I’d love to know how they differentiate between men undergoing gender reassignment and cross dressing men

minnienono · 17/06/2025 07:46

Whilst I’m incredibly understanding of the need to have suitable housing for those who have experienced domestic violence for instance and I know there’s need for more affordable housing, I don’t actually think segregation based on sex on this scale is right, can you imagine the outcry if reversed? Social housing should be done by need with families, even with male children, prioritised.

Reversed? You mean when women are killing men at a rate of 2-3 a week type of reverse too? When 1 in 4 men have been sexually assaulted by women type of reverse? Fucking sick of this reverse crap. Just fuck off with it.

Where does it say that? It's very much meant for single mothers, fleeing donedtic violence.
