Only came to light because of the court case involving him claiming a woman in prison had been 'transphobic'(he lost). Presumably this man remains in the women's estate.

Trans killer has record 'wiped clean' after thug self-identified as woman

Campaigners have urged for answers to know if other trans prisoners also have clean PC records for the new names they gave themselves.

I seem to remember a government minister saying he was aware of this or confirming that this was correct a few years ago? I haven’t got time to check now but there are old threads on this on FWR

Interesting. It also came up during the Scottish gender recognition debates. There were amendments put forward to try to prevent criminals getting new ID and generally the SNP were having none of it.

I know what you mean, it also reminds me of the original purity spiral article about people on a (I think?) knitting forum berating each other for “cultural appropriation “ for daring to refer to a “kimono” while being white, and suchlike.

But I still get so amazed by how people allow themselves to both ignore obvious facts and logic fails, and also refuse to see that situations are nuanced. It is almost certainly not true that every member of any demographic is an adorable, saintly victim but least of all a demographic that lets anyone opt into it AND offers considerable rewards for doing so, especially to men and even more so to criminal men. I mean duh. Other examples are also stunning in the blinkeredness and stupidity they involve, but when it’s about keeping people safe from offenders and even that goes down the toilet without a second’s thought… it’s incredible, imagine if you could change the minds of institutions and authorities so easily on something actually positive and helpful to society instead of something that increases risk and enables dangerous men.

the other thing about the tinfoil hat effect is that these things make you so angry and frustrated that when trying to talk or argue with people who can’t see the issue you may rant and exclaim somewhat. Then you DEFINITELY are a witch “bigot” / “hate trans people” Hmm

Edited

Oh yes.
When you're pushing against a strong social narrative, and are constantly
slammed for it, it's really easy to get defensive, and then a bit shirty, and finally properly cross.

With each move, the tinfoil hat becomes more evident to the 'kind', 'liberal', 'thoughtful' person you're talking too.

But I do am utterly boggled that so many people were so stupid, or so willing to go along with the cool, 'kind' crowd, that they chucked safeguarding out of the window.

I was never cool, so that probably helped me...

How bad does it have to get before they actually do something about it? It would not surprise me if there’s a convicted nonce in a dress studying a PGCE right now, and applying for teaching jobs with a clean DBS.

Thank you for explaining
I am actually dumbfounded

They have to fill in the same form. The only difference is that the unit handles the info confidentially. Anyone using this service is basically OK- they ARE revealing their old name but they dont want eg an employer seeing it. The problem is the ones who dont use the unit, and who dont put their old names on the form - they know they won't get caught as there is no connection between the new and old ID. It's a criminal offence but chances are they won't get caught and they have bigger stuff to worry about, like the old criminal record.

several questions in ScotParl on this story today. (Link clipped to correct times, I hope)

Cab Sec repeatedly says this was a 'failure to disclose' - by this, I assume she means that the criminal involved didn't tell them about his crimes?

By gosh, good thing they make it clear that criminals should jolly well fess up when asked about their past, eh?!

Ash Regan asks for a full audit of data re corruption. Tess White asks for the SPS to get a fucking shift on and get rid of all men in women's prisons. (I paraphrase).

Cab Sec starts to whimper and insists that work is going on the length and breadth of gov to comply with the Supreme Court ruling.

Just as soon as the EHRC confirms that yes, the Scotgov have stupendously, absurdly, ridiculously and unforgivably fucked up for years and years. Even though the SC have already made that very clear.

She’s confusing the EHRC with the European Court of Human Rights. No, we don’t need to wait for anything from Europe.
