The Bluestocking - where the laugh emoji is sorely missed.

Welcome to the Bluestocking Arms!

The company is always sparkling, the drinks are always sublime, and the cakes are mysteriously free from gluten, sugar, calories, and troublesome booze… not that you’d ever notice. 😏

Our enthusiastic team of gerbil waitstaff is ably supported by capybaras, quokkas, and other charming creatures who excel at their jobs while looking outrageously adorable.

You will find many things to laugh at - usually out loud - so take care not to spit out your tea. We are considering a petition for the return of the laugh emoji - just as soon as the AI gerbils learn how to spell.

New Bluestockingers are always welcome. Men can pop along to The Staunch Ally nearby.

Currently also knitting a Woolly Hug blanket for Bluestockinger Swashbuckled. Details here if you can knit or crochet a square before the 18 July.

Congratulations and all good wishes to @Swashbuckled’s DD, Dr Swash, and very good to hear about the Christmas rota.

JuneShellChangeHerTune · 29/06/2025 13:28

Those squares are beautiful, @EdithStourton . Like others I particularly like the Bluestocking one: I think it reflects all the different sizes and locations of our pub as we move around every 1000 posts.

Boiledbeetle · 29/06/2025 13:32

The gerbils are lined up, stickered up and ready to take orders from new customers

Who did the rota? We have the identical quintuplets Gloria Gloria, Gloria, Gloria and Gloria on the same shift!

EdithStourton · 29/06/2025 13:34

Thank you Android - you over-estimate me! 'Klutz' is my middle name...

@teawamutu, once the bargerbil gets to you, I'd recommend the current guest lager - wonderfully cooling and refreshing. I should be gardening or shed-tidying but it's a bit hot even for me, so I'm lounging in the bar.

Brains and Batshit (dogs, for anyone not in the know) are in full agreement and lounging next to me. They have given up on sunbathing as too hot.

They’re just waiting till their younger sister turns up. Breaking with the normal nomenclature, she’s Inexcelsisdeo.

Chersfrozenface · 29/06/2025 13:52

I'm so glad someone did a bluestocking square - it's fabulous, @EdithStourton.

I did try and it didn't go well, it just proved that I can't work with more than one colour. Single colour squares in various stitches from me.

I've never missed the laugh emoji more.

Nice one Errol! so maybe I'm behind the curve with my suggestion that yes they are all Glorias, but one is Vivaldi's Gloria, another is Mozart's Gloria, and the one at the end is Bach's B Minor Gloria. The other one is Van Morrison's Gloria, and her pronouns are 'Them'Grin

And sorry Android, of course - crocheters have lovely squares too!

lcakethereforeIam · 29/06/2025 17:01

Does that explain why they've got so many Galileos, and one Figaro, at the Staunch Ally?

Britinme · 29/06/2025 17:10

In Tunnocks news, I am currently in the UK and spent last week in Northumberland, where was given four Tunnocks snowballs and had the delight of introducing my American DH to them. I regret that he was less appreciative than I thought worthy, so I then ate his second one for him.

Not to forget Magnifico. He's my favourite.

Many's the time you'll find me outside the Bluey, shouting down to the Ally, "Magnificoooooooooooooooooooo!".

ifIwerenotanandroid · 29/06/2025 17:45

The AI also gave me Scaramouche here, probably because I asked for a guy leaning outside the Staunch Ally & it thought I couldn't spell.

I hear he's a big favourite with the academic members of the Bluey.

Buy lots & take them home 'for him'.

lcakethereforeIam · 29/06/2025 17:51

Scaramouche! Mamma mia!! <fans self>

FuzzyPuffling · 29/06/2025 18:09

Despite being veggie, I got " Spare him his life from the pork sausages".

Can't do AI. Probably for the best.

Magpiecomplex · 29/06/2025 18:18

How fond of the beard is Scaramouche? Asking for a friend.

inkymoose · 29/06/2025 18:46

EdithStourton · 29/06/2025 12:11

Squares so far. Not blocked as requested by WoollyHugs so not flat...

My 'Bear square' (crochet) has come up so wonky that I will redo it.

These are FAB 💙

JanesLittleGirl · 29/06/2025 18:49

Where are you getting these images of DH from?

Never mind the rest of us.

DeanElderberry · 29/06/2025 19:33

I sometimes fear the Bluestocking has taken over my imagination. I'm reading a 40+ year old Marion Babson mystery novel (Death Warmed Up). The narrator runs a catering business and cookery school, and there's a clumsy but well intentioned student/waitress called Gretel.

I have to concentrate quite hard to remember she isn't a gerbil.

inkymoose · 29/06/2025 19:35

teawamutu · 29/06/2025 12:41

These are utterly fabulous.

I feel at the same time that this is the wrong time to intrude in to the Bluestocking as the veterans cluster round at a time of such loss - but it's beautiful and I'm glad I'm seeing it.

Gosh, Tea, you are certainly not intruding. It's great to see you here!
