The Bluestocking - where the laugh emoji is sorely missed.

Welcome to the Bluestocking Arms!

The company is always sparkling, the drinks are always sublime, and the cakes are mysteriously free from gluten, sugar, calories, and troublesome booze… not that you’d ever notice. 😏

Our enthusiastic team of gerbil waitstaff is ably supported by capybaras, quokkas, and other charming creatures who excel at their jobs while looking outrageously adorable.

You will find many things to laugh at - usually out loud - so take care not to spit out your tea. We are considering a petition for the return of the laugh emoji - just as soon as the AI gerbils learn how to spell.

New Bluestockingers are always welcome. Men can pop along to The Staunch Ally nearby.

Currently also knitting a Woolly Hug blanket for Bluestockinger Swashbuckled. Details here if you can knit or crochet a square before the 18 July.

I see Rosie has successfully assisted in moving Swash's ship to the new thread.

It's like improv. Lean into it and say Georgie is having a grump because she has never tasted a teacake but has certainly moved a lot of them. Others will pick up on the idea and take it to the ridiculous.

It's rude to say, No Georgie would never say that because it stops the enjoyment dead.

Much more fun to invent a backstory about Georgie always complaining about something because she wants to go and lift weights at the Staunch Ally.

And then someone might create an AI image of the scene.

Generally, gerbil names start with G, capybara with C, quokkas with Q.

But just make it up. That's all we're doing.

I'm still wondering why Brenda, the tour gerbil that showed bear where the Tunnock's were hidden is called Brenda. Apparently it's "complicated"

DeanElderberry · 13/06/2025 20:36

I hate to spoil the cordial atmosphere, but you can indeed get gerbil lore very wrong, as anyone who remembers the 'safe sex' debacle can attest.

a propos, two important points, one for @MarieDeGournay , do make sure the gerbils do not have enough space to get on top of the strongbox in the Treasury, one for the dispenser (who is that btw?), they did get their pills at the right time after all the vegetable shenanigans, didn't they? I'm always a little anxious ever since . . . .

Welcome @AlexandraLeaving, my advice if you hear the patter of many more tiny feet than seems usual, turn a deaf ear, it's easier all round.

Brenda is called Brenda because Grenda isn't a proper name. So she says...

She has a point. Glenda sounds much better.

Germoleen is happy to serve you

Thanks Germoleen! And a beer to go with it, perfect 👌🏾

The giant wombat has arrived from the old thread

Evening all, it's been a long week and I can't really thole the heat...

MarieDeGournay · 13/06/2025 21:01

Welcome AlexandraLeaving, I hope you feel right at home soon. The gerbils are the least of your worries, believe me - every now and then a Giant Wombat appears with her own backstory, which I repeatedly forget ,so I've no idea how she got here!

The origin of the miniature pigs in the garden is also a bit obscure; I do know however that they are happy to come indoors and act as very comfortable footstools.

I have a suspicion that the only reason quokkas are here is because they are just so damn cute, and we don't need any other reason.

The Bluestocking has a location, but I forget that too, I just remember that we are near a hill called Peak Woo, which surprisingly revealed itself as an active volcano a few threads ago, by erupting!

So just sit back and enjoy!Smile

@MarieDeGournay I think giant wombat was the result of an AI picture with dodgy perspective. It might even have been mine. I will have to go and look now!

SionnachRuadh · 13/06/2025 21:23

I'm not sure I approve of wee drink umberellas. They always make me feel like I should be drinking a pina colada and getting caught in the rain.

Good grief, it's very crowded in here with little furries underfoot everywhere. 😁
I miss the laugh emoji - though admit to using it occasionally to express my derision at some of the more insane posts on here. 😳

The pigs look like they've been inspired by Escher with their mini taxi they've arrived in!

Some of them have faces in the wrong place as well! Best not to look too closely or with your glasses on!

Boiledbeetle · 13/06/2025 21:34

Thanks, that page also gives a quick catch up on the seagulls which I'll stick here

Steve the seagull was the dad. Kevin stepped in/shacked up with Sharon and the babies as soon as it is was rumoured Steve had been killed in a bin wagon accident. Although from subsequent sightings I believe that Steve is still alive, spying occasionally on us and family, after doing an insurance fiddle and trying to get out of fatherhood.

Thank you @MyrtleLion!

And greetings from the A1 - it looks like we will be in Ipswich around 9pm - ds1 is ordering Chinese.

I live in shopping range of Ipswich. I sometimes venture to the John Lewis. Terribly exciting.

Many thanks for the new thread, @MyrtleLion

I've tried & failed to get the AI to produce an image of a gerbil as a dummy sitting on a ventriloquist's knee.

"What's your name?"
"Grenda."

It just won't do it.

Gerbil lore is entirely bonkers.
They do have form for writing rude graffiti about each other (don't let them play Monopoly).

Marie, I love the model Bluestocking.
