I can't read the article (paywall) but ex-NHS here. I previously worked on psychiatric wards and this has been going on for years. One of the reasons I left.

Edit. Not just any criminals either. Male sex offenders identifying as women and being placed on single sex female inpatient wards.

Monstrous. There's few women more vulnerable than those suffering from terrible mental illness. They won't be believed.

Not to mention that this is a huge problem for doctors when prescribing. Certain treatments and management are different for men and women.

The records in the psychiatric inpatient unit label all women as "women including transgender". For this reason it's really difficult to know if someone is transgender or not.
