Just deliver my parcel, I don't need every icon on your App festooned with a trans/rainbow flag. Just do what you are paid to do and don't shuff your political crap down my throat.

Rant over.

There's probably a tax write-off in there somewhere.

Sure, I get that. The thing with companies like DPD is most users aren't actually the customer. So people would need to boycott all retailers that use it.

By the time it gets to a boycott things have gone very awry.

Reputational damage can be a lot more subtle than that, and incremental. Brands spend a lot of time and money on positioning and influence and nudging and campaigns.

The decisions to jump on with progress pride have been assumed to be a net positive for brands. I'm not sure that's the case anymore.

Which may well be why we're seeing things quietly toned down a lot this year.

PriOn1 · 03/06/2025 18:46

My local NHS Twitter account has the progress flag over its avatar. It won’t stop me going, but it reminds me that there’s no guarantee of single sex spaces in the NHS.

I honestly wouldn’t mind the rainbow flag. The progress flag is just a tool to remind me that for the past 15 years, transactivist groups have stolen my rights and fully intend to continue until someone forces them to.

A good, thoughtful article on Pride from Kathleen Stock:

Incidentally, it's strange for DPD to do anything for Pride month. The backbone of their organisation is the drivers, surely? I've known a few through work, and they've all been regular straight blokes. For want of a better description. I doubt they've ever given Pride a moment's thought in their lives, unless parade road closures have a knock-on effect on their route. I'm willing to bet the vast majority of them don't give a shit about gay people, one way or the other. So how much does this really represent the company? What's the point?

I just can't imagine the calendar flips to the first of June and the lads all gather round at the depot. "Right! Pride month! Where are the flags, boys? Who wants to get the popcorn in and binge watch It's A Sin?"

More like:

"Alright, head office have sent us these stickers to put on your van. Don't ask, there's no point. Oh, and they're upping us to 300 drops an hour. And Dave, someone saw you pissing in that bush again. What have I told you? Go where there's a bit of cover. Right, let's draw straws for the leccy van. I could only squeeze in a half charge, but someone's got to take the sodding thing. And if anyone asks, remember: the whole fleet's electric because we give a shit about the environment."

Fossilgreen · 03/06/2025 20:23

The British Heart foundation radio was interviewing their director about Pride month. He was all about supporting authentic selves at work. And why do co op staff have pronouns on their badges? In what context am I ever going to talk about a shop staff member to someone else?

Maybe your DB would appreciate that trans people are fighting the same fight he was fighting in the 60s and show a bit more empathy.
The idea that trans people can be dismissed as just “men with leggings prancing about with erections” is deeply offensive.

It is nothing like that.

Trans people are protected by law. It was illegal for men to be gay until 1967 in England and Wales, even then you needed to be over 21 and 1981 in Scotland, 1982 in NI.

There is no law preventing "Intentionally promoting trans people". You do not have a chief of police complaining that trans people are "swirling in a human cesspit of their own making".

So no, nothing like the 1960s.

Also no other human rights movement has sought to remove rights from another group.

Delphin · 04/06/2025 09:45

"Trans people are protected by law. It was illegal for men to be gay until 1967 "

Was it ever illegal to be trans(sexual) in the UK? In Germany the Transsexuellengesetz which regulated the transitioning process came into power in 1980, but even before that, people could transition. There just wasn't a process in place and some got their papers changed with doggedness and some didn't.

This deserves all the laugh emojis 🤣

The only thing I will say about the DPD app is that they do these icons for every event, it will likely change to tennis in July. Pride is one of many themes. There is a setting to turn off themed icons.

I'm sorry you had to acknowledge that gay people exist?

Next time keep your eyes closed when you open your post, if that proves too difficult then just grow up and don't get bothered by things which have absolutely no active influence on your life.

As OP said, it’s the trans flag. And we are all forced to acknowledge that trans-identifying men exist when they strut into the women’s changing room.

I didn't know gay people existed until the Pride flag existed.

Gay people didn't exist throughout history because the flag had yet to be invented.

People aren't gay unless they wear a Pride item to signify that they are gay.

Well yes, I wanted to add one too 😂, but they are gone from the selection menu since today. What happened (or is this just my problem)?

Why is it suddenly considered acceptable to complain about Pride Month? It had been going for years.
Do you also whine about Black History Month. Mental Health Awareness Week, Dementia Awareness etc etc ?
We have a history of celebrating people who have had to/are struggling for equality or support and I’d say that’s something to be proud of.

Overkill, and with it a special pleading for privileges not afforded to others,

Shortshriftandlethal · 04/06/2025 12:58

WaffleParty · 03/06/2025 12:15

Most trans people just want to get on with their lives and have no impact on anyone else’s.

Not true!

There's a lot of noise and expectation around pronouns and demands that others make way and afford special privileges.
