What do we think the 5 Supreme Court judges are thinking of what's happened since?

Do we think they are sanguine and just accepting that the law takes a long time to be accepted and worked through, given the previous misinformation?

Do we think they are surprised by the resistance from employers and service providers?

What do we think they are thinking`???

Regarding the discussion here on GRCs, it seems to me that the only use is for the pretence that a heterosexual marriage has taken place.

Indeed. Thus, a Church of England priest can marry two men, one of whom has a GRC, but not two men who are just, um, men. And a priest who declines to marry a man with a GRC to another man cannot prevent her church from being used for such a marriage, because these two men have a right in law to be married in the church (providing they satisfy residence conditions). But it would be illegal for her to marry two men who want to enter a same-sex marriage. IT IS MAD.

Also, no, the protected characteristic of gender reassignment is not linked to getting a GRC and there is no expectation to do so.

I do agree with Julie Bindell! There seemed to me to be a slight ‘frostiness’ in the court when the KC for FWS laid out their case (understandably imo - I thought he was playing to the gallery). Also referencing starting college on the same day as Lord Hodge was neither a good or relevant move I thought! Once Ben Cooper started speaking the atmosphere from the Bench changed completely imo - cogent and well argued legal points - particularly regarding lesbian association got them all interested!

Agreed. I am of this world and the FWS silk's submissions really annoyed me. Emotional and powerful sure, but you have so little time before the SC! If BC hadn't stepped in, I think they'd have been sunk, it was playing to the gallery not the actual decision makers. Obviously that may have been deliberate and he and BC had agreed one did emotion and one did law, who knows.
