Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Transpeople have the right to express themselves in whatever way they want but

How come we don’t have the right to freedom of thought ? I commented on a ParkrunUK subreddit that I respect the right of a person to identify however they want, I’ll treat them respectfully, I’ll even defend their right to adopt whatever gender stereotypical appearance they want, but I have the right to believe a person cannot change sex. Told I was transphobic, didn’t understand science, and wanted to eradicate them from society. How come freedom of expression and thought is fine if it’s of one persuasion, but not of another ? One trans woman said she could look at porn anywhere, it was freely available, ‘didn’t need to look at women’s tits’ in a changing room. I might be prudish but that really is a bit icky, shoehorning porn into a discussion about women’s safety.
Anyway, I’ve complained to the moderators, let’s see where that gets me 😂

It's a bit double standards though because women can wear what they want - trousers, suits, ties etc but men can't dress as they want 🤷

I kinda agree. Especially in the summer when all the women in the office are wearing linen shift dresses or thin floaty tops and the poor men are still in trousers, shirt and tie. It's definitely an area where the patriarchy isn't working for them. It's a bit mystifying that they haven't changed it - but I guess pride counts for more than comfort.

Unless you are trans, then apparently it's the trans women who can wear what they like, as everyone is too scared to pointbout that their clothing is inappropriate. Like that bloke at the London trans rights rally a few weeks ago in the blue and pink outfit. A woman probably wouldn't wear that outside of the beach.

Ironically it was to a meeting (I think) about VAWG and they were representing a women's group? Refuge? or similar.
Because every women's organisation needs to be represented by a man unable to contain their desperation to browse an online sex shop while on the way to a meeting in the House of Commons 😑

Christ, that's an aggravating article, no hint at all this wasn't a real woman. I think/hope it would be reported differently today?

Also not to de-rail this (heh) but I recall GWR's algorithm snagging Sex Matters as terrorism, though looks like they corrected this after complaints.

It doesn't matter if you point it out. I remember when I was a member of a trans forum. Some of the transwomen were determined to wear their "sexy outfits" to go buy bread on a Saturday morning, no matter how the rest of us (including other transwomen) explained that it wasn't a good idea unless they wanted to attract negative attention. I don't know if they really didn't get it, or if it was just more important for them to fulfill their fantasies.

TeiTetua · 31/05/2025 19:29

What's a "trans woman"? I only know one kind of woman.

Transgender-identified men now, I do know them.

It was the WESC discussing single sex exemptions in the Equality Act.

Diana James was a volunteer with Cornwall Refuge.

Please can you screenshot these comments. A heterosexual male referencing porn in relation to female changing rooms is a clear example of why that person shouldn’t be in that space. Flag this to parkrun itself and if they don’t deal with this then send to the Times (?) journo who has been writing about them. This is ridiculous!

Fortunately ties are enforced in far fewer workplaces these days. Shirt and trousers are reasonably comfortable. In my office, a few came in in shirt and shorts on hot days, though I think they were judged a bit for that! It wasn't customer facing work very often, and "business casual" was fairly rigorously enforced.

ThisIsMyYearToFindMyself · 01/06/2025 11:36

A lot of Reddit subs are like that, and I’ve been looking at the parkrun one for a while now, these responses are unfortunately not a new thing.

I like to sit down sometimes with a cup of tea and upvote/downvote comments there.

Freudianflip · 13/07/2025 13:21

Park run isn't a competition

eatfigs · 13/07/2025 13:39

This is unfortunately very common on Reddit.

The moderators of many subreddits are TIMs or allies, and ban those who question trans ideological beliefs. Those left are the ones that believe in this nonsense, or toe the line to avoid being banned.

Reddit's rules against "misgendering" and so on - that they label as "hate" - also stymie discussion.

Park run isn't a competition

Then they shouldn’t have sex categories, should they?

Park run isn't a competition

So why is there a women’s and men’s category? Why just just all run as one group? Saying it’s not a competition makes no sense when you look at the facts does it?

Grammarnut · 19/07/2025 13:11

LilaTwirls · 31/05/2025 17:45

It's a bit double standards though because women can wear what they want - trousers, suits, ties etc but men can't dress as they want 🤷

Men can dress how they want, suits, ties, shorts, t-shirts, kaftans (and assorted long skirted men's wear from other cultures), kilts etc. Why do they want to wear something more suited to a porn star on the tube? (Not that I wish to make unpleasant comments on the porn star, who is a prostituted woman who needs help).

Lins77 · 19/07/2025 14:31

Parkrun has always claimed not to be a race, but it has times and finishing positions and sex and age categories and is treated seriously by many, so it's hard to distinguish it from a race really.

Helleofabore · 19/07/2025 16:41

Any organisation that publishes records for runs has made those runs competitive.

It has never been logical or true while those records are published and exist.
