It is going to happen again at the end of next week.

I hope the women involved drop out. Khelif is not safe.

Women's groups will be protesting the event.

Remember Khelif has still not taken any real legal action or taken another simple test to prove their sex.

Khelif will cause outrage across the world again.

Imane Khelif Set To Defend Title In The Netherlands' Eindhoven Box Cup

Ten months after a controversial gold-medal-winning run in the 2024 Paris Olympics, Imane Khelif is set to return to the ring at the Eindhoven Box Cup next week.

Absolutely. Which is a point that should be hammered home.

murasaki · 30/05/2025 23:01

Exactly. Take the 2012 Olympic womens 1500m. They chucked the most recent one out last November. British athletes who finished 10th and 11th are now 5th and 6th......

Grammarnut · 30/05/2025 23:04

The Netherlands appears to be captured.

Enough4me · 30/05/2025 23:10

Next - men out of all women's sports. There's no reason women's sports would benefit from becoming unisex and multiple reasons for keeping it single sex (safety, competition, decency, men already have their own opportunity etc.)

Grammarnut · 30/05/2025 23:04

The Netherlands appears to be captured.

Given they sent a convicted child rapist to the Olympics on their beach volleyball team, protected him from all the media and made his team mate deal with it, this behaviour from them is not surprising.

viques · 30/05/2025 23:46

Well yippee aye ay. Couldn’t they have said this before? Why does it take so much energy to get these people to see reason and the obvious way out of a situation.

What's interesting is all the news items assuming that Khelif will be ineligible. Almost like they all know already that he's male.

https://www.thetimes.com/sport/boxing/article/imane-khelif-boxer-barred-competitive-comeback-6c93hqs22

they must all have crystal balls, unlike Imane who has the standard male issue balls.

Myalternate · 31/05/2025 00:04

Imane Khelif, won’t undergo any testing.

He’ll claim it’s dehumanising/against his human rights and any other excuses he and his team can concoct to allow him to retire from boxing with his ‘dignity’in tact.

Everyone knows he’s (DSD) male but having the test to prove it, will be far too embarrassing for Algeria. They will have to find a ‘face saving’ solution.

That’s what I think will happen.

nauticant · 31/05/2025 00:10

It'll be that there are misogynistic assumptions about brown women and how they don't fit into Western standards of feminity and, in such an atmosphere of racism and sexism, Khelif withdraws to preserve Khelif's own dignity and sanity.

Myalternate · 31/05/2025 00:14

That’s exactly what I should have written…darn it! 😄

murasaki · 31/05/2025 00:15

Which isn't going to wash when female boxers from various demographics take the test.....

Yeah, but I think you're both right!

World Boxing is to introduce mandatory sex testing, and IK is banned from boxing in female competition unless IK undergoes testing:

Thanks for the link!

Is it just me or is some of the wording interesting. It reads like an old MN post with zeros pronouns and just IK in each sentence.

I meant unforgivable, not unaccessable...

Victory!

Most of the news reports however are not giving credit to the real victors here. The protestors online and IRL, mostly women, who stopped this assault on women before it started.

As those following this thread saw the promotors of Eindhoven Cup were keen to get Khelif into the competition. They had him on the poster, they were pushing him on social media.

Only this time without the power of the Olympics they had a real pushback to face. A growing storm of protesters online resulted in a mass of women ready to turn up at Eindhoven, even travelling from abroad. Complaints were sent to World Boxing. Seeing the wave of negative publicity they were going to face World Boxing who had a year to sort this out suddenly moved fast.

It seems there were already moves underway regarding Lin Yu-ting who may have been stopped recently from a tournament in Thailand [see earlier in this thread]. World Boxing had been refusing to clarify what was happening till now or take action. It is pretty clear it was the protests which focused their attention.

Once again ordinary women refusing to be silenced have pulled off another win. Against the odds. Against the authorities..

There is a lot more to this story which is not being discussed. Another key event which needs attention is that Lin Yu-ting was attempting to get into a boxing competition in Sheffield in November 2024, but was not even registered in the first place.
I don't think this was discussed widely. Doesn't seem to be a Mumsnet thread. If it was I missed it.

Taiwan boxer at center of Olympic gender row 'quits event'

What was this about? Lin Yu-ting obviously was trying for some kind of publicity stunt hoping to sneak in the competition somehow. He flew thousands of miles, turned up, the British organisers never having heard from him, thank goodness questioned his eligibility because of his sex and blocked him, thus creating a new row. Thus he claimed to quit an event which he wasn't signed up for in advance. World Boxing as the article shows were still all over the place.

But World Boxing said later Wednesday that its current eligibility policy does not prevent Lu from taking part in the World Boxing Cup.

"Selection decisions are made by national federations and the boxer was not entered in the event," said a spokesman for the organization.

The spokesman added: "At World Boxing we put boxers first and the safety of athletes is absolutely paramount.

"We have recognized for some time that gender clarity is an extremely complex issue with significant welfare concerns and our medical committee has a dedicated working group committed to examining every aspect of this area so that we can strengthen our policy."

The Taiwanese Boxing authorities used this stunt to claim World Boxing was apologising to them a few days later even getting a Lin Yu-ting in a photo with the President of the WBA in Sheffield :

World Boxing president apologizes to Lin Yu-ting
https://www.taipeitimes.com/News/taiwan/archives/2024/12/02/2003827828

So this shows how World Boxing was desperate to avoid the issue.

It all goes back to the crisis at the Olympics. A few months ago in March 2025 Bach from the Olympics committee was still insisting on the cover up and blaming the IBA. It was always lies.

Olympic Chief Issues Final Verdict On Imane Khelif Gender Row

Nevertheless, after serving a 12-year stint, Bach has maintained his view of the IBA just days before his presidential term comes to an end.

“I would not consider this [Paris Games gender row] a real crisis because all this discussion is based on a fake news campaign coming from Russia,” Bach told Reuters.

“This was part of the many, many fake news campaigns we had to face from Russia before Paris and after Paris.

“These two female focuses [Khelif and Yu-Ting] were born as women, they were raised as women, they have been competing as women, they have been winning and losing as every other person.”

Well thanks to the courage of the women protestors these lies have been exposed. Plenty more wins to come as long as we all keep pushing.

Lin, who along with Algerian boxer Imane Khelif was embroiled in a gender row at the Paris Olympics, was due to compete in the World Boxing Cup Finals in Sheffield starting Wednesday.

I just read on Twitter that Algeria will be allowed to do the testing and just submit results? Surely that can’t be right?

Helleofabore · 31/05/2025 08:35

I would think the onus on testing probably should go to the country’s sporting organisation. The country should then not be entering in athletes untested.

Then the competition body should be doing follow ups if a testing agency’s certification is in doubt or an error looks to be have made.

Helleofabore · 31/05/2025 08:39

Don’t forget, the Algerian boxing organisation already have two valid tests. One from the IBA. And one from the Paris specialist.

They already have tests that they could use to admit Khelif into this competition at hand. When World Boxing contacted them, they could have said, before you make this announcement, let us submit these test results. (Or at least the Paris specialist)

Of course, we can reliably predict what those will say.

Ffs.

When would it ever be acceptable for country to do its own testing, when is it against its interests to find correct results.

And this is why Imane will not be taking any test. So he can maintain the lie and retain his medals.
