Have I completely misunderstood GCSE biology...

...or is the purpose of spotting an anomaly not specifically to disregard it in order that it doesn't lead to an inaccurate conclusion?

If so, why is everyone fixating on DSDs as "proof" that sex is a spectrum, when the anomalous 1.7% (if indeed it is as high as that - from what I've read that figure is only achieved if you include conditions such as PCOS which have a tenuous claim at best to be one of the "intersex" variations) is clearly a set of results that don't fit. Because something has deviated from the norm. It's not like calculating the mean of a range of heights, FFS.

Please can someone more scientific than me explain what is going on here? Or is it simply that certain factions are so hell-bent on arguing that anyone with ladyfeels can be a woman they're happy to completely disregard any sort of science or logic in order to do so?

You've catastrophically misunderstood my post. I don't even know where to start to respond.

Some people above seem to think that transwomen want to go into women's bathrooms and do something other than just mind their own business and use the toilet. I'm not entirely sure what it is, but that's the impression I'm getting.

Any MALE in a female space, is automatically a predator. That's it. Full stop. Period. There is no reason for a male (whether in a dress or in a suit and tie) to be in a female ONLY space. Even Germaine Greer foresaw this happen in 1979!

You're incredibly misinformed.

My sister in law had to live as a woman for years before she got seen by a doctor and had the surgery.

We don't give a fuck what he did. He is not a female. No more than Rachel Dolezal (google her) is African American because as a white anglo saxon she bronzes her skin and has her hair done in an afro style and self-IDs as an African American is actually one. They are both frauds, pretenders.

So it's you that is incredibly misinformed.

If you believe in conspiracy theories there is no need for us to continue to converse as I am only interested in reality. Have a good day.

Conspiracy theories are believing that because a male 'lives as a woman' (whatever that means) for a few years and chops their dick off that they're now suddenly a female and entitled to violate, as the oppressor sex class, the oppressed sex class's safe single sex spaces. That, is the highest conspiracy theory of all. Next to blackface.

Yes, I would happily get changed in front of a trans woman. Why wouldn't I? What might happen?

Do you even realise that transwomen are males with PENIS AND TESTICLES?

Are you seriously saying you'd happily get changed in front of a stranger intact male?

Is that what you're asking us to believe????
????

Legal change including all documents.
Wearing women's clothing full time.
Telling people that's how they wish to be treated.

Ah, so you prove that trans is all sexist stereotypes. If a male wears womens clothing, he is....suddenly a woman. According to you. You realise many women wear trousers, right? Does that make us men? In your narrow and shallow mindset it does. After all, being a female is just sexist 'performing' of womanhood.

Telling people that's how they wish to be treated.
Ah yes. The male tells women how he wishes to be treated. And us women must obey. The internalised misogyny in you is palpable.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 24/05/2025 12:57

Women don't need to do any of these things.

Exactly. Actual women don't need to do any of those.

That there, is the difference.

FlakyCritic · 24/05/2025 15:20

Autie · 24/05/2025 12:58

So far we've got 2 names maybe of trans women who did something terrible? So we shall ban all innocent trans women, assuming they're going to do the same thing.

Can't be anything wrong with that, surely?

The male sex class on the whole pose a threat to the female sex class.

THAT, is why we have separate intimate facilities and changerooms.

That because the majority of males don't hurt females, does NOT negate the need for female only spaces. We operate on the 'one is one too many' theory.

ThreeplusI · 24/05/2025 15:48

The judgement was forced by several cases in the legal system in Scotland. One where a trans woman was placed in a female prison whilst on remand awaiting trial. The transition occurred sometime between arrest and sentencing, under the existing law she would be housed separately but still in female prison full of, let's face it women who have been damaged in some way often by a man. Whether the transition was a genuine descision that explained the previous hatred of women or an attempt to escape justice we'll never know.

Autie · 24/05/2025 12:39

Just to be clear, you'll be happy with what the image is saying?

Ooh, ooh, now do the photos where teeny tiny Buck is standing beside an absolutely massively tall transwoman (i think it was Laverne?) or one of the unfiltered pictures of the dude on the right!

Or....

Perhaps lean into the reality based GC view that people should use the toilet which aligns with their sex rather than access being contingent on how 'pretty' someone is.

So by this principle, he becomes a man again whenever he strips off to have a shower or bath?

Also, and apologies for the directness here, but could you clarify if he's still a woman while he's doing whatever with his cock? Pissing out of it, wanking, etc. You know, male things.

Just trying to pin down your logic here. Thanks.

Keeptoiletssafe · 24/05/2025 16:10

Look at this picture @Autie

Single sex public toilet design is on the left. Because of several factors involving male behaviour, some of the newer single sex toilets have changed and are often more private like the design on the right. Like the new ‘standard’ in secondary schools.

I want it to go back to the design on the left and single sex toilets are still the only designs that can have gaps for health and safety, under the regulations. The Supreme Court ruling will assist that happening in public places and schools.

Single sex toilet design is the safest. The only reason ‘gender’ comes into it is that it is a big factor on why the design changed.

Everyone should remember people at their most vulnerable in toilets - in reality that could be anyone who has been spiked, having a heart attack or stroke. 1 in 3 people will have a seizure in their life. There is a heart attack every five minutes in this country, same with strokes. That involves everyone, irrespective of belief. Now factor in the millions of people who are more vulnerable with epilepsy, diabetes and heart conditions.

Where do you go when you feel ill in public? Lots of public places have defibrillators now because they can save someone’s life if you use them quick enough. Why not assist that by having single sex toilets?

As this topic was originally about human biology, I will also mention the biology of other species: there’s a lesser concentration of microbes in the air and floor of the toilet on the left too. They are much easier to clean.

This is just a post on health and medical conditions. I haven’t even mentioned assaults yet, but I can tell you single sex designs prevent them happening in the first place. Guess why.

Brainworm · 24/05/2025 16:15

Autie seems to have some significant blind spots in their thinking.

  1. Women seeking to exclude any and all males from single sex provision for females has nothing to do with trans issues. It’s to do with wanting a female only space. There is nothing that can be said, good or bad, about transwoman, that has any relevance.
  2. Their experience of their trans in law and what does/doesn’t make them comfortable has no relevance to single sex provision
  3. This thread is about biology. Transwomen are only transwomen because they are male. Being male should preclude access to female only provision, regardless of other characteristics a male has.

Can anyone point me to a source which classifies which DSDs are male and which female?

I am astonished how many people with DSDs themselves subscribe to this utter twaddle.

https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/differences-in-sex-development/

It’s not twaddle. It’s a fact.

eg caster Semenya is male with a DSD only men have, which is 46 XY 5-ARD (5-alpha-reductase deficiency).

nhs.uk

Differences in sex development

Find out about differences in sex development (DSDs), a group of rare conditions where the reproductive organs and genitals don't develop as expected. Some people prefer to use the term intersex.

My sex is female I've birthed 3 children. My gender is female however my chromosomes and hormones would aline more with male; and I look male - I have an Adams apple. I'm actually terrified at the moment to use a public bathroom and haven't taken my children swimming in weeks; especially after being called a lady boy and threatened for using the wrong bathroom.
I had to have some genetic testing done because of a disability one of my children was born with. My chromosomes are xxxy.
When I was asking questions about what this means how it happens etc, the specialist told me it's actually not that unusual. And those that study biology past A-Level know this, at GCSE it's taught even more basically. Very few people are xx or xy, there are literally 1000's of combinations.

The trans debate is more about controlling how women look, as is proven by my own lived experience! If it was anything to do with trans people then they'd be stopping trans-men using the men's bathroom as well!

One of the reasons it has been so hard to have rational discussions with the transactivist lobby is that they lie with impunity. It undermines EVERYTHING else that they say.

Sex isn't a spectrum. It's binary.
There is no overlap between male and female hormone profiles.
Almost everyone on the planet is XX or XY and the small percentage who are not, are all still male or female.
You cannot be female and have XXXY chromosomes. It's a condition that only affects men.

I’ve lived as a woman for all my years and have never done two out of three of those.

I’m curious, if I were a man who wanted to live as a woman/present as a woman, what changes would I need to make?

forgotmyusername1 · 24/05/2025 17:55

I have a question

Women - 'we don't want to share space with transwomen as we are concerned about male violence'

Trans women - 'omg you are accusing all transwomen about being violent, one trans woman offending doesn't mean all trans women are offenders

Also trans women 'we don't want to share space with cis men as we are concerned about male violence'

Not all men are violent so surely by applying their logic back to them they should be ok to share with men.

I don't think we heard again from the PP who claimed to have Klinefelter's and to have given birth? I would love to hear more about them and why they believe this to be possible. Who told them that this was the case? Willfully lying or sadly misinformed?

And very very few people have anything other than XX or XY sex chromosomes. Where would they have got "alternative facts" about that from?

I found the stupidity astounding. Every human being, mammal, and many other species, require a male and female to reproduce. Every single human alive is here because of a sperm cell from a male and an egg from a female. This is early biology stuff.

No one is here because of two males or two females, only one male and one female. Intersex people exist, but are rare, and I’m willing to bet a very small number of the trans community are actually medically intersex.

AirborneElephant · 24/05/2025 19:02

Randomly popping back to fish, bump headed parrot fish can definitely change sex. They also change skin colour. So if you first become a fish, you may well be able to identify as the sex and race of your choice 🤣. Unfortunately for the TRAs, no mammal can do the same.

Five fascinating facts about parrotfish

This all got me musing about gametes and the differences between them, and whether it is theoretically possible, or will ever be possible, to make an embryo out of two ova or two sperm cells. I did a bit of reading, having not really thought about this before. Turns out it isn't possible, because they are not just containers for the DNA but also have other functions and structures that are complementary to each other. So both cells are essential for creating the embryo. You have to have one of one and one of the other for an embryo to form, they are not interchangeable. (And there is no "intersex" gamete). Pretty fundamental biological facts about the difference between the sexes. The sperm can "identify" as a egg as much as it likes (e.g. researchers can change its shape, size, move the genetic material into a different cell, paint it pink with sparkles), it still doesn't work biologically.
