https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/05/15/nhs-trust-breaking-law-trans-row-royal-college-nursing/

'The Royal College of Nursing (RCN) accused the County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust of breaching workplace health and safety law by not prohibiting a trans nurse from using female changing rooms.
The union intervened amid a legal battle between the trust and eight of its nurses, who are opposing its decision to allow Rose Henderson, who was born male, to use women-only facilities.
In a letter seen by The Telegraph, the RCN in March pointed to the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992, which require all changing rooms to be male or female-only except when they are “single lockable rooms”.
“The RCN expects the trust to comply with these statutory provisions and provide single-sex changing rooms without delay,” the letter reads.'

This is such great news!

Its all about keeping membership numbers and funding. The realisation that the bulk of union members are women might actually be sinking in.

Darlington have paved the way for others to potentially set up their own union. This will weaken the RCN over time.

Women might not necessarily shout and wave placards about but they are likely to take their union subscriptions elsewhere to another organisations that welcomes them and focuses on their needs.

Sadly I think this is the most likely scenario. I have been saying since the judgement that this war is won on money rather than morals. Companies and public bodies will only change their policies when they have to start paying out ££££ due to litigation rather than because they think protecting women’s rights is the correct thing to do

NImumconfused · 15/05/2025 22:37

Given that bit of reverse ferreting, then I wonder is it worth hitting the RCN leadership with the data from Knotty's policy audit? If they support the Darlington nurses against their trust management, then surely they'd have to address the same admonishment to all the other NHS trusts that are doing exactly the same thing?

Wuuman · 15/05/2025 22:42

Great news!

I hope it’s a courage calls to courage situation. There must have be so many nurses who are GC but afraid to speak out against the trans cult. Then slowly but surely the tipping point is reached and not everyone is so afraid :o)

Hopefully that rather than purely arse covering, though there’s some people doing that too no doubt.

endofthelinefinally · 15/05/2025 22:44

About time.
I always found the RCN useless but maybe there is hope.

Hoydenish · 15/05/2025 22:53

I am frankly astonished. In a good way.

kiwiane · 15/05/2025 22:53

Let’s hope that Unison and Unite change their stance too and start to speak up for their women members. I’m fed up with policy being taken over by the trans lobby through conference votes.
Many hospitals have not rolled back their trans agenda - it would not be possible to guarantee single sex care at my hospital. As HR only ask for gender on recruitment they no longer record the sex of their workforce, surely that isn’t lawful?

Really need the idiots at the BMA to wake up and smell the roses. The problem is that they've been strongly influenced by the sort of young extreme left wing members who find TRA activism to be a great way to hate women but still seem woke.

Bannedontherun · 15/05/2025 23:12

My daughter is head of nurse training in an NHS service, and i have had to suffer her having been thoroughly indoctrinated by NHS inclusivity nonsense, i have had to listen to her shout at me for being a transphobe, for saying her son was such a boy,

her cognitive dissonance was palpable as she struggled to hold on to a truth that was always a lie.

as a mother i think it became harder for her.

we generally avoid the subject, my silence worked as stuff hit the main stream.

the last question she asked me was what about the transexuals, where does that leave them?

the use of that word so startled me i said nothing about it because it to me was a move forward.

I just said why is that issue a woman’s responsibility and personally i am out of flying fucks as a feminist from the original stable.

anyway the point i am trying to make is that the SC ruling is game over, and we as women know who the casualties are at a lesser or greater degree depending on your own situation.

It is over bar the shouting, and i sleep better at night knowing my grandchildren will be far safer.

LeftieRightsHoarder · 15/05/2025 23:53

Wow! The RCN sounds like a genuine trade union in the OP.

Up till now it’s been as weak, dishonest and misogynist as all the other unions, arse-licking to the transactivists because it doesn’t give a damn about its female members.

As PP said, the RCN must be losing enough members to worry it.

SinnerBoy · 16/05/2025 05:03

Blimey, a glimmer of hope there. Like some other posters, my first thought was that it's because they don't want to lose members, along with money and influence. Is it too much to hope that the zealots at the top might be replaced, do you think?

GreatWhiteWail · 16/05/2025 05:36

I know I'm meant to graciously lay out the golden bridge, but actually I want grovelling apologies and detailed explanations.

This isn't going to cut it, for me.

orangegato · 16/05/2025 05:52

I imagine a corresponding Reddit threat of men losing their shit. Ha.

I’m just all warm and fuzzy that the days of women having to accommodate men’s entitlement and personality disorders are coming to an end. I won’t forgive or forget, but I’ll enjoy watching the backpedaling and imagining how painful it was for them to write.

NotmeMother · 16/05/2025 06:24

If you've time, go look at the ladies doing the NHS audit. Their work is immense and I'm sure it will be absolutely invaluable in helping bring this nonsense to an end.

WhereAreWeNow · 16/05/2025 07:02

I hope GC members of the RCN are emailing in to praise them. The mad TRA members will sure as hell be writing in to complain/threaten to resign.

AndrogynousElf · 16/05/2025 07:03

Great!

It's just been the RCN conference- I'm wondering if this came up. How could it not have, given Samdy Peggie and the Darlington Nurses?

About fucking time. I wonder if this being done while heartedly or with their noses held?

About fucking time

My thoughts exactly

Chrysanthemum5 · 16/05/2025 07:36

Im not a nurse but I think up to nurses whether they trust RCN who refused to support sandie and didn't seem to rush to help the Darlington nurses. And this reverse ferret isn't the bravest move, after the SC judgement they couldn't really do anything less than this.

If I were a nurse I think the Darlington nurses union would be a better choice!

Dozer · 16/05/2025 07:37

much too late from RCN.

What about the other bodies - eg physiotherapists’ one.

Seriestwo · 16/05/2025 07:40

The physio one doubled down.

Fools

ArabellaScott · 16/05/2025 07:45

The RCN elected a new president in January - Bejoy Sebastian. I wonder if the change in direction has been a result?

OP posts:
ArabellaScott · 16/05/2025 07:48

Although in February they declined to support Sandie Peggie, I think? Not sure of the timelines.

They came off X in December, possibly because of the pushback ... I suppose a lot of this is happening quietly- this letter was sent in March and has only just come to light.
