Are you a Unison member? Got thirty seconds to tell them to respect women's rights?

Got a minute? maybe less?

The more Unison realise their mainly female members do not support men in their toilets, the better.

( I saw this on Reddit, knew they needed to know what members really felt https://www.reddit.com/r/transgenderUK/comments/1kljpgc/call_to_action_for_unison_members/ )

START:

1 - go here - https://www.unison.org.uk/get-help/online-enquiries

2 - choose "other" and type in "women's rights"

3 - Paste this, or write your own, or use this as a starter for :

"I am writing to urge you to publicly and unequivocally support the recent UK Supreme Court judgment confirming that “woman” in the Equality Act 2010 means biological female. This ruling is now settled law and provides much-needed legal clarity for women’s rights, safeguarding, and single-sex provisions.

I also ask that Unison immediately adopt and promote the EHRC’s Interim Guidance on single-sex spaces, which clearly sets out how organisations can lawfully provide services for women only, in line with the Equality Act.

As a union with many female members working in frontline, safeguarding-critical roles, Unison must lead in upholding women’s sex-based rights, not undermine them by promoting ideology that contradicts the law.

Please confirm what steps Unison is taking to reflect this judgment and the EHRC guidance in your internal policies, training, and public messaging."

AllWhitNoWhoo · 13/05/2025 13:45

Well, I say wish, but actually if I had a membership, I'd have cancelled it!

I’m so glad I didn’t sign up to them when I started my new job 10 years ago.
They’d had my money for eight years before that, so I am well shot of them.

Scout2016 · 13/05/2025 13:54

What is there to consider? Whether to act within the existing law and guidance or not?
What they are all at a loss about is what to do with all the men. But they know what not to do with them in the meantime, which is don't carry on pretending they are women.

Edited to say I filled it in thanks OP, saying I want them to confirm they'll act within the law (can't believe that's a necessary request) made it clear I don't want gender identity policies and also asked how it's legal to have a man running for a "female seat."

Every little helps!
