Ben & Jerry's have joined the nonsense and actually seem to support GLP 😲 Someone hasn't done their research. Thankfully the comments are overwhelming supportive of the SC judgment, but I really liked Phish food I've cream 😞

I've been off B&J for a few years now. I want ice cream, not "activism". Anyway, the ingredients creep me out. I have developed a very expensive habit of booja-booja's vegan selection. Absolutely divine, ingredients I recognise, practical if I've eaten meat (can't mix meat & dairy for cultural reasons), but about £5 a tub. A special treat... every other week.

BlueEyedBogWitch · 12/05/2025 20:20

I have a Cuisinart ice cream maker that makes excellent ice cream.

Very easy and delicious, and not full of shit like B&J (in every sense).

BlueEyedBogWitch · 12/05/2025 20:21

Ice cream maker

Just need to find somewhere that sells little chocolate fish.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 12/05/2025 20:25

LiDL do some exceptionally good dupes...

BlueEyedBogWitch · 12/05/2025 20:26

I’m going to make some chocolate ice cream, get some marshmallow fluff, dulce de leche and chocolate chunks and make my own version.

I’m going to call it Terph Food.

I stopped buying them a while ago for something similar, them and innocent.

Yep, also haven't bought Innocent in years. Used to be a staple in our household.

Tinseltuttifruitti · 12/05/2025 20:43

As others have pointed out, it's unsurprising because the original Ben and Jerry were hippies from Vermont, USA ie hippie central, hence the flavour name Phish Food after the band. They sold out to corporate in the 90s so it's even more disingenuous, pathetic really.

Hedgehogmud · 12/05/2025 20:52

Why do companies tie themselves down to ‘causes’? I can understand environmentally friendly products donating a bit towards the environment and giving you a short lecture about bees on the side of the yoghurt pot. But I wish I could just eat my ice-cream in peace. I need to find a decent recipe for hazelnut ice-cream. I tried a Magnum one - which was great, but a bit sweet.

Pollyanna87 · 12/05/2025 20:54

I don’t understand why a ruthless business like Unilever allows the B&J company to get political.

Ta! And the hazelnut looks lush.

Hedgehogmud · 12/05/2025 21:04

The Hazelnut looks amazing, thanks @BlueEyedBogWitch

JazzyJelly · 12/05/2025 21:05

Damn. Love a cookie dough. Do they not KNOW who buys things in the supermarket?

HereForTheFreeLunch · 12/05/2025 21:08

Oh no!

Anyone know if Tunnocks freeze well?

Had the same thought.

No more Ben and Jerries for me.

I'm actually eating my home-made icecream as I type: I use the base from this recipe, but instead of ginger I mixed it with peanut butter, chopped dark chocolate and pretzels.

No UPF shite, no shonky politics and no over-priced wankery.

LesMisSaigon · 12/05/2025 17:50

So everyone is boycotting them?
Great, more Ben & Jerry's me then!

Knock yourself out. You know there was never any limit on the amount of ice cream you can buy don't you?

tobee · 12/05/2025 21:57

WithSilverBells · 12/05/2025 19:26

Been boycotting them for years for naively pushing Russian propaganda narrative about Ukraine

Our house have been doing this for the same reason. Plenty of other good ice cream available.

That sounds amazing.

I tend to only do a quick cheat nowadays - keep a supply of frozen sliced leftover bananas, and blitz them with whatever yogurt or thick kefir I’ve got and either cocoa or cinnamon, and sometimes some almond butter. No UPF, no antagonistic politics, one of my 5 a day and maybe even some good bugsHaloGrin

mcduffy · 12/05/2025 22:12

Ooooh thanks for the inspiration Errol!

I do something similar -

6 bananas, sliced and frozen
3 tablespoons of cocoa powder
3 tablespoons of good peanut butter

Blitzed in the food processor, it makes a very tasty sort of soft serve ice cream/chocolate pudding type thing.

JanesLittleGirl · 12/05/2025 22:54

DH assures me that all our ice-cream comes from the farm shop. Probably true as his dad is one of their major suppliers.

There’s lots of variations on ‘what shall I do with the leftover bananas I shoved in the freezer’.
