I love Ben Cooper

Got to love his reply to the "non-binary barrister" prancing around Garden Court Chamber on TikTok saying that that he often gets perceived as a man. Hint - he is a man.

BC's response "I too am often perceived as a man. The struggle is real."

I am sure that you know this but this is not Ben Cooper KC in case anyone is wondering.

EweSurname · 10/05/2025 12:43

I didn’t realise that, thanks @ItisntOver

Annoyedone · 10/05/2025 12:44

You mean there are 2 awesome Ben Coopers in the world!!

MarieDeGournay · 10/05/2025 12:47

He helpfully introduces himself as Oscar Davies, they/them, the first 'publicly recognised non-binary barrister in the UK'.

I'm sure Ben Cooper is just a good a dancer as Oscar, he doesn't share his moves on TikTok - sadly, some might say - he sticks to being good at barrister-ingGrin

As above, this isn’t the barrister.

TheOtherRaven · 10/05/2025 12:59

I must admit I was watching the, er, dancing and thinking - obviously Ben and his support wren got the good sherry out last night.... 😆Glad that's not actually Ben.

But frankly as good as he is in court, and the job he has done for women and LGB people, if Ben ever wants to stand on his head and wave his legs around in full regalia I'll hold his coat any time.

MarieDeGournay · 10/05/2025 13:00

As the OP pointed out, the ONLY Ben Cooper connection was his witty reply to Oscar's complaint about being perceived as a man:
"I too am often perceived as a man. The struggle is real."

I think that was perfectly clear, wantmorenow, I'm just clarifying ...

I think the 'not Ben Cooper' Ben Cooper was peaked by people mistaking him for the 'Ben Cooper' Ben Cooper. Although, no-one has seen them in a room together 🤔 He seems a good sort.

SinnerBoy · 10/05/2025 13:17

The Real Ben Cooper probably just raised an eyebrow slightly and hoped silently that Oscar would get a brief in some cholera ridden Hell hole like Middlesbrough.

DefineHappy · 10/05/2025 14:43

What else could he possibly be perceived as, other than a man?
He is a very cringeworthy, not terribly coordinated, egotistical, attention seeking male, who I would never even consider engaging for legal matters.

Lark1ane · 10/05/2025 15:02

Are any of these I'm mad me / nb / essence of woman / blah blah grifters actually any good at lawyering?

Can't say that I've come across any.

MarieDeGournay · 10/05/2025 15:48

I laughed out loud at 'I'm mad me', Lark1ane, I'm going to hear it in my head now every time I see another of those self-obsessed eejits...😄

MelodyMalone · 10/05/2025 16:33

If Oscar doesn't want to be perceived as a man, having a shave and changing his name from "Oscar" might be a start.

It won't work, of course, but at least it would show willing.

Ddakji · 10/05/2025 16:46

I’ve met the real Ben Cooper (KC) <preens>. He’s a big lad.

Thank you. That article was, erm, eye-opening.

That is completely unfair on Middlesbrough. Like they don’t have enough to contend with without the overly flamboyant eyeliner and performative dance of a non-binary barrister.

I’ve seen him in passing, he’s not a chap you’d argue with.

(I did manage to resist curtseying!)

NoWordForFluffy · 10/05/2025 22:25

I received a letter from Oscar (they/them) on one of my files at work. Recognised his name instantly.

I emailed back to tell him he was wasting his time contacting me as limitation had expired (weirdly he'd didn't seem to have taken a date of incident from his client. Or had, but hoped I wouldn't notice!). Didn't hear from him again.

ArabellaScott · 10/05/2025 22:27

Oh I love this nonbinary barrister chap. More pls.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/05/2025 14:33

He's good value, isn’t he @ArabellaScott🤣
