Very brave young woman. Excellent article from Ben Rumsby.

"She has been banned from playing football for asking a transgender opponent: “Are you a man?” She has been discussed and debated on television, online and in parliament. She has become a symbol in the fight against those born male playing in women’s sport. And almost nobody knows who she is.
Until now."

Slight derail: the Telegraph article says that Cerys is autistic. I’m curious - in my experience, there seems to be a quite binary (sorry!) split in autistic youth between those who feel like aliens in their own bodies and so are drawn to trans ideology as an explanation, and those who are extremely dismissive of trans ideology because it’s completely unscientific. I wonder what dictates which path an autistic child might go down…

Well done 👏
She deserves a formal apology at the very least.
She should sue them

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 10/05/2025 09:57

Except you are not that girl.

LlynTegid · 10/05/2025 09:58

Not the only thing the FA should apologise for, though this would be a start if they did.

I think the OP’s title is just quoting the title of the Telegraph article, to be fair.

"Male athlete Ska "Lauren" Kennedy is yet another man who plays for the Manchester Laces club, currently on the Laces Blu squad. Kennedy is an avid "furry" but seems to have been less active in the community after putting on his "woman" costume instead. Like many of the other male players, Kennedy appears to be much older than his female teammates. Just how many more men will we find on this team???"

That last pic mentions he likes drinking Monster. It's like The Stuff. It needs deeper investigation, I swear. 😆

Just adding the first twitter thread for that collection where the Manchester Laces’ player is mentioned.

https://x.com/hecheateddotorg/status/1919972652027961691?s=46

It details Clapton Reserves and more from the Manchester Laces.

They have found over 20 males so far showing that the FA minimised the number in an attempt to minimise what they allowed to happened. The FA tried the ‘it is only a few!’ fallacy which never works.

This twitter thread shows just how many of these male players were on the top scorer list. And the fact that these ‘top scorers’ played significantly less games to get into that top list.

Plus there is a 60 year old goalie! How many 60 year old female goalies are playing with the general women’s league. Ie. not in a special master’s league.

That goalie reminds me of that union player, Miller, in Broken Hill Australia. A 55+ year old player playing union with the female players decades older … and they don’t believe they have an advantage! These male people are showing just how little they are female or understand how female people live. They truly show their ignorance and they don’t care. They didn’t feel the need to either, but now they insist they are victims.

She asked a question and was drummed out of her sport, unable to take part in the sport she loves. She has every right to be there. He didn’t. Its disgraceful that this happened to her. Look at the bloody size of him! They always seem to be ten years older too, why is that? Hmmm.

Not to mention the massive impact it had on her education. She's autistic, this is clearly the thing she values more than anything else and she's chosen to study PE as a result. This guy is an absolute bully. It's shameful that she's had to stand up for herself, and her parents have been dragged through the process as punishment as well. So ironic isn't it, that she had barriers in place already, was smashing through them. The rhetoric used against her used to be about genuine support for people like Cerys. Some people just want everything for themselves and can't stand to see a woman doing well.

I notice the BBC interviewer (Dan Roan?) does the “don’t you feel sympathy for the men” bit as well. Prat.

I also wondered if she had been told she shouldn’t mention the beard.

Loved her very straightforward “no”. Good for her.
the FA should absolutely apologise to her and I would go so far as to suggest that the team that reported her should themselves be sanctioned for being vexatious. I know that won’t happen but at the very least they should have to cover the costs faced by this young girl in defending herself. I know in cricket if you appeal a decision the league you belong to charges a few to consider your appeal so I imagine somthing similar would apply to football

RaininSummer · 10/05/2025 10:15

I have a young female relative, diagnosed ASD, who at one point thought she was trans. She was withdrawn, stayed in her room and did a lot of drawing - rather worrying images - and self harmed. After appropriate treatment for anxiety and some sensible talking therapy, she took up a sport. She’s now fit, healthy, happy, knows very well she’s a girl, and is borderline obsessed with the sport.

DuesToTheDirt · 10/05/2025 10:25

It's (yet again) so weird how people are punished for asking a man if he is a man, when they wouldn't be punished for asking a woman if she is a man! (She'd just say, "No," maybe be a bit embarrassed, and that would be the end of it).

But obviously the lie has to be enforced with punishment to try and make it stick.

I've just been reading this article about this on the BBC News app; more surprising to see it on the BBC than in The Telegraph:-

Footballer banned for trans comment wants FA apology www.bbc.com/sport/football/articles/ckgnwgnge4yo

Hopefully it's widely read.

There are some extra details in this article that are really chilling. They mention that it was because she expressed her concern to the referee that they took it further!

And FFS! These journos need to stop asking women if they have sympathy for men. That is like asking women if they have sympathy for male people who have clearly made it understood that they don’t respect women and girls and who knowingly acted in ways that put women and girls at risk of harm!

What other group gets this special treatment by the BBC?

mcduffy · 10/05/2025 10:31

This stood out to me as mentioned above, accuser has withdrawn from process so nothing happens?!

because they do try to make it as difficult as possible for you to go up against them. They bury everything in language and rules and things like that, and it’s designed to confuse ordinary people like us, who’ve never dealt with anything like that before. We’re not experts. We’re just angry parents.”

that's from her mum.

A lot of people in the comments are saying she should sue them. If what the Supreme Court says is right, and it's always been illegal, then yeah bloody sue them.

Because the FA themselves don't give a flying fuck. They said the only reason they've stopped proceedings is because the complainant themselves has withdrawn.

Well let's see if we can find a few other reasons why you should've stopped.

An FA spokesperson said: “We can confirm that this disciplinary case has now been closed, as the complainant has chosen to withdraw from the process due to personal reasons. All relevant parties have been informed of this outcome and no further action will be taken. To protect the players involved, and to respect the confidential details included, we are not in a position to publish further details about this case.”

The complainant and everyone up the food chain should be held to account.

I’d support that if there was any gardening to be done. As I suspect would most on this board. These kind of vile injustices have hidden in the shadows for too long.

Heh journalists..... can you ask the men if they feel sympathy for women, being deprived of access to fair competition and safety in sport?

It's just amazing, isn't it, this idea that we should feel sorry for the men. I am so glad that Cerys Vaughan is completely unapologetic about saying she's not sorry for the man involved.

Even Rod Liddle, who is on our side, more or less, finished his recent Sunday Times column about male trans athletes with this:

"I have genuine sympathy for those trans women — men — now hanging up their football boots. But I have still more for the small tranche of people — largely women — who dared to speak out, and suffered constant vilification for doing so."

Hmm, Rod. Anyone else you might feel sympathy for in this? Maybe those women and girls forced into an unfair competition against men, and risk injury into the bargain?

Chrysanthemum5 · 10/05/2025 09:01

It really grates that every time a woman is questioned on this she is asked if she has sympathy for the men. When the cheating men are interviewed it's all about their feelings I've never heard one interviewer ask if they feel sorry for the women who don't want to play against men.

And how easily a women gets banned for indecent behaviour or whatever it was when blokes get away with SUCH a lot and even if it gets to court they can still walk free.
Women don't count for anything - not in Afghanistan, not in the UK.

Misogyny is a spectrum but always present.

JustSpeculation · 10/05/2025 10:42

unwashedanddazed · 10/05/2025 09:43

Lovely bit in the BBC interview when he ask her the (mandatory?) question, do you feel sorry for the sad trans woman?

No.

Well done Cerys. She knows that's a complete sentence.

The interviewer is presenting a counterargument, and this is part of it. He is then listening to her clear, reasoned and emphatic rebuttal. I'd call this good journalistic practice, because I like journalism which includes reasoning rather than just feelings. But I would be interested to hear of any similar interviews with TW in which a counterargument is presented and successfully, coherently rebutted. Can anyone point me to any?

It’s Orwellian really.

Butchyrestingface · 10/05/2025 11:05

I've just sent this article to a friend with the words:

"I like this girl.

INTERVIEWER: Do you have any sympathy for men transgender women who want to play with women?
FOOTBALLER: Nope."

In other words, take your #BeKind and shove it where the sun don't shine. Grin

Helleofabore · 10/05/2025 11:06

I now consider any interviewer who asks the ‘Do you have any sympathy’? question as doing it to present the woman or girl as lacking empathy, sympathy and potentially having prejudice about the group. I do not consider this question part of an interview technique that should be encouraged in any spirit of balance.

There is no symmetry being shown at all.

TheOtherRaven · 10/05/2025 11:18

“He might be offended. But I think, on the day, when we were playing, all I remember is, there was a man on the team. And, so, that’s how I’m going to refer to him. For what he put me through, he clearly doesn’t have any respect for me. And so I don’t have any for him.”

This a hundred times. Well said.

When women and girls are told they must give 'respect' to men who treat them like this, it is not 'respect' being demanded, it is submission.

The voice of a woman giving the other side of the story - more of it please. Lots more. And I appreciate the courage it took to give this interview.

Is there any example, anywhere, at all, of a man being asked 'do you have sympathy for the women and girls you are excluding/alarming/harassing/risking injuring in insisting on access to this space?'

At all?

Why are women and girls being required to show this unquestioning deference to men?

Are you sorry for men who find your rights inconvenience their freedoms?

Are you a good little male supremacist?

mids2019 · 10/05/2025 11:31

I have a teenage daughter who plays football and it's very physical with off the ball clashes and heated discussions on pitch. I would really fear for their safety playing against men and also with short grabbing common in football it is quite obvious which parts of the anatomy might be grabbed here.

Well done this girl for pointing it out and with the supreme court ruling hopefully girls football can be safe.

Pleasantsort · 10/05/2025 11:34

Same @RainbowZebraWarrior , I'm a late diagnosed autistic woman and my teen years were horrible but thankfully this nonsense was not around. Poor young women! Men are centred and prioritised always above women- makes me so angry !!!
