Very brave young woman. Excellent article from Ben Rumsby.

"She has been banned from playing football for asking a transgender opponent: “Are you a man?” She has been discussed and debated on television, online and in parliament. She has become a symbol in the fight against those born male playing in women’s sport. And almost nobody knows who she is.
Until now."

Thanks for this. Just to clarify - when I saw the thread title I thought you were Cerys Vaughan, but you’re just quoting the headline?

wantmorenow · 10/05/2025 08:32

Brave young woman. Definitely on the right side of history. Thanks for sharing.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 10/05/2025 08:34

Thanks. Kafkaesque indeed. It is utterly mind boggling that at that point in history, seemingly one of the worst things you could do was ask a bloke with a beard if he was a man.

As an Autistic woman I'm still so bloody angry about this, and for the Autistic girl that was arrested by West Yorkshire police a couple of years ago.

It's been like a bad dream. How did these people in authority ever think they were in the right?

tobee · 10/05/2025 08:42

I've just been reading this article about this on the BBC News app; more surprising to see it on the BBC than in The Telegraph:-

Footballer banned for trans comment wants FA apology www.bbc.com/sport/football/articles/ckgnwgnge4yo

Hopefully it's widely read.

tobee · 10/05/2025 08:44

Although I note the BBC doesn't seem to mention the beard.

ThaTrìCaitAgam · 10/05/2025 08:46

Love the last sentence of the article.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 10/05/2025 08:57

She needs an apology and we need some resignations at the FA for their evident bias against women and girls.

MTCoffeePot · 10/05/2025 08:58

Very brave young woman - I note the concern expressed by the FA's CE about the fellas not allowed to play against women but zero concern for the harm caused to the young woman in the case or female footballers generally.

"Male athlete Ska "Lauren" Kennedy is yet another man who plays for the Manchester Laces club, currently on the Laces Blu squad. Kennedy is an avid "furry" but seems to have been less active in the community after putting on his "woman" costume instead. Like many of the other male players, Kennedy appears to be much older than his female teammates. Just how many more men will we find on this team???"

A 3 hour video call that left a teenage girl in tears. Appalling from the FA.

Cerys says she does not feel sorry for transgender women who will soon be forced to play in men’s or mixed competitions. “I don’t think that the opinions of a very, very small minority should be put over the opinions of thousands and thousands of women throughout the country. I think we should be prioritised. And there definitely are mixed leagues, mixed teams that they can go and play for. They won’t be forced into men’s football, and so I don’t have any sympathy for them.
She also makes no apology for referring to her “bearded” accuser as “he” and not “she”. “He might be offended. But I think, on the day, when we were playing, all I remember is, there was a man on the team. And, so, that’s how I’m going to refer to him. For what he put me through, he clearly doesn’t have any respect for me. And so I don’t have any for him.”

Bravo Cerys. Even the supportive Telegraph have asked what about the poor men 🙄

Chrysanthemum5 · 10/05/2025 09:01

It really grates that every time a woman is questioned on this she is asked if she has sympathy for the men. When the cheating men are interviewed it's all about their feelings I've never heard one interviewer ask if they feel sorry for the women who don't want to play against men.

Dillydollydingdong · 10/05/2025 09:04

It's a man's world (still)! Let them trample all over us women and do what they want.

ChateauMargaux · 10/05/2025 09:06

Heh journalists..... can you ask the men if they feel sympathy for women, being deprived of access to fair competition and safety in sport?

borntobequiet · 10/05/2025 09:06

I notice the BBC interviewer (Dan Roan?) does the “don’t you feel sympathy for the men” bit as well. Prat.

I also wondered if she had been told she shouldn’t mention the beard.

As soon as the barrier is breached, word will spread and you are seen as an easy target.

It’s safeguarding 101. Gatekeeping matters. Gatekeeping signals that you aren’t a soft target.

That’s a big bloke. Who would want their teenage daughter playing against him?

Floisme · 10/05/2025 09:19

What a brave young woman, I don't think I'd have the nerve to do that now, never mind when I was a teenager. I wish her every happiness and success.

She asked a question and was drummed out of her sport, unable to take part in the sport she loves. She has every right to be there. He didn’t. Its disgraceful that this happened to her. Look at the bloody size of him! They always seem to be ten years older too, why is that? Hmmm.

Datun · 10/05/2025 09:37

because they do try to make it as difficult as possible for you to go up against them. They bury everything in language and rules and things like that, and it’s designed to confuse ordinary people like us, who’ve never dealt with anything like that before. We’re not experts. We’re just angry parents.”

that's from her mum.

A lot of people in the comments are saying she should sue them. If what the Supreme Court says is right, and it's always been illegal, then yeah bloody sue them.

Because the FA themselves don't give a flying fuck. They said the only reason they've stopped proceedings is because the complainant themselves has withdrawn.

Well let's see if we can find a few other reasons why you should've stopped.

An FA spokesperson said: “We can confirm that this disciplinary case has now been closed, as the complainant has chosen to withdraw from the process due to personal reasons. All relevant parties have been informed of this outcome and no further action will be taken. To protect the players involved, and to respect the confidential details included, we are not in a position to publish further details about this case.”

The complainant and everyone up the food chain should be held to account.

Igmum · 10/05/2025 09:41

Well said Cerys and she was treated appallingly by the FA. Here’s hoping that this lunacy really is coming to an end.

unwashedanddazed · 10/05/2025 09:43

Lovely bit in the BBC interview when he ask her the (mandatory?) question, do you feel sorry for the sad trans woman?

No.

Well done Cerys. She knows that's a complete sentence.

Helleofabore · 10/05/2025 09:47

Thank you Cerys for fighting the injustice that you faced.

And thank you OP for the thread.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 10/05/2025 09:50

What an amazing girl saying everything that needs to be said and unafraid to put herself first. I hope she never changes.

Tallisker · 10/05/2025 09:53

I wonder if that youngster who questioned a trans PCSO and got bounced will be able to go back and say “Sir, I told you so”
