So says a statement from its female boss (my boss).
“This feels like a huge step back, and I want to reassure all our colleagues impacted by the ruling, that you have our support, that you have my personal support, and that we’re doing everything we can to explore how we can do right by our colleagues, stay true to our values…

“Our policies have not changed…. colleagues can continue to use toilets and changing facilities in accordance with their gender…”

Wow. I hope they’ve got some deep pockets to defend their position in court then… not exactly in line with their core values, is it? Am sure that would generate some interesting headlines!

INeedAPensieve · 02/05/2025 19:52

They'll change their tune when the court cases begin...

TeenToTwenties · 02/05/2025 19:52

Why are people coming out with statements that are now clearly illegal?
They are going to look right idiots when they have to publish a retraction or get slapped with a lawsuit.

DrSpartacularsMagnificentOctopus · 02/05/2025 19:53

Absolute fools.

TeenToTwenties · 02/05/2025 19:55

Did she even get their legal advisors to check it first??

ArabellaScott · 02/05/2025 19:55

Oh, dear.

ArabellaScott · 02/05/2025 19:56

Statements like these will make for very quick court cases, at least.

countrysidedeficit · 02/05/2025 19:57

Where was this published?

DuesToTheDirt · 02/05/2025 19:59

Twits. Do they not understand that it the SC ruling is not simply an opinion, it is law, and that following the law is not optional?

AnneLovesGilbert · 02/05/2025 20:00

Ask if her statement’s gone through legal and HR and where your insurance provider stands on it.

MsPoppoff · 02/05/2025 20:00

@countrysidedeficit message to all colleagues today.

So they’re going to break the law then? Angry

Also willing to bet the co-op employ more women than men, it beggars belief that companies can be so stupid. What about supporting their female employees by giving them their actual sex based rights to single sex spaces

This.

Soontobe60 · 02/05/2025 20:04

The very first time a female employee objects to sharing workplace toilets with a male and get disciplined, the negative publicity that business will get, never mind the payout courts will order, will be a joy to behold,

Teado · 02/05/2025 20:05

There’s no way the legal dept signed off on that, surely. HR must be worried, too. Lots of potential problems there…

murasaki · 02/05/2025 20:08

Do we have a tally of companies and organisations that have openly said they're happy to break the law?

stealthsquirrelnutkin · 02/05/2025 20:09

A huge step back?

Back to when women still had sex based rights? Before I'm-alright-Jill twerps like her decided to throw them away?

The supreme court has pointed out that TERFs were right all along, trans identified men are not entitled to women's sex based rights, they have their own rights and are not entitled to ours. Even if stupid women like her still don't like it?

She should be grovelling on her knees to all the women she betrayed, vowing to clean up the mess she and her Quisling colleagues created, and making it perfectly clear that men do not get to intrude on women's spaces and rights. None of them. Ever again.

MsPoppoff · 02/05/2025 20:09

@AnneLovesGilbert and @TeenToTwenties this will have been cooked up slowly since the ruling and seen by all the exec, group legal etc. Every comm they release is very closely scrutinised. I am gobsmacked. It’s very very female led at Co-op, especially at the top. My suspicion is Shirine has been swayed by the very vocal trans staff lobby. Sounds like they wrote it and she signed it. But even so.. women’s rights are a ‘step back’? Gobsmacked. Of course I’ll have to keep my mouth shut at risk of being burned at the stake. Furious.

We have decided to break the 1992 law
let alone the 2010 law
and hope that none of our employees contact our insurers

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 02/05/2025 20:12

FFS! Currently staying with my Mum in a place where the only food shop is the Co-op. Can't boycott them without starving to death. What a bunch of arrogant numpties.

Stepfordian · 02/05/2025 20:12

Don’t forget Shirine used a surrogate to have her children, she’s no champion for women.

Ugggh that’s gross.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 02/05/2025 20:14

The Co Op? The supermarket?

Idiots 😑

CriticalCondition · 02/05/2025 20:16

I see from another thread that the Co-op was and maybe still is signed up to Stonewall. Someone should point out Stonewall's disclaimer regarding legal advice which is plastered all over their website.

ThatCyanCat · 02/05/2025 20:16

Bye bye business insurance!
