They’d like Parliament to override the judgement from Maya’s case 🙄.

(Unsurprising that most signatories are in Brighton).

She ‘teaches’ trans voice alteration apparently 🤪 I don’t know why but Three Little Maids from school are we, from the Mikado came into my head, I saw a parody version once and it’s hilarious 😆

CassOle · 02/05/2025 23:04

There was a parody of that on here a while back. I think it was called 'Three little 'theys''.

ECtHR is the court. Note the "t".(as realistically the NHS is not sustainable unless you invade another country with oil fields),

ECHR is the convention that we signed up to.

But other than that conflation of the two, you are on the right track. IANAL but I cannot see how repealing the "religion and belief" part of the Equality Act could be compatible with ECHR articles 9, 10, 13, and 14. The Govt would have to leave the ECHR and then Parliament would have to vote to repeal the Human Rights Act before they could legislate away the Forstater ruling, because Forstater was about Maya's article 9 and 10 human rights as much as it was about the EA. Leaving ECHR would stop the TRAs from appealing the FWS ruling to the ECtHR. Leaving ECHR would also allow this or any future Parliament to repeal the GRA, the gender reassignment protections of the EA, and anything else that's only on our statute books because of Goodwin v United Kingdom (2002).

TRAs should consider carefully the consequences of what they are asking for. But we already know that they don't do that.

I have no idea how that quote about the oil fields from a different thread made it into that post.

I stand corrected, but I did know that they all go hand in hand...

Yes, they both go together, and have annoyingly-similar initialisms. It's a very common mix-up.

“We think…”

Well, you know what thought did, don’t you? Followed a muck cart and thought it were a wedding.

(A Northern saying!)

MarieDeGournay · 03/05/2025 00:25

I've worked out the motivation behind all these trans actions in response to the SC ruling: spite.

They feel thwarted and are going to lash out in all the ways they can, throwing mud around in the hopes that some of it sticks, claiming confusion where there isn't, and saying things they hope will hurt us because we've been so nasty to them.
A petition to parliament is a just a fancy way of being spiteful.

NotBadConsidering · 03/05/2025 00:25

It’s so poorly written. Grammatically poor and contradictory.

fromorbit · 03/05/2025 01:48

These guys realise that Muslims, many Christians etc believe there are two sexes and their beliefs are also protected under the equality act.

Which is why besides the fact that sex is real the genderist stuff was always going to hit a wall. In the UK though they got stopped by mostly lefty women and some sensible men rather than religious types.

I really hope this petition makes it to the parliamentary debate stage.

It would be delicious to finally see it spelled out to these people that gender identity is a philosophical belief and not a fact.

It’s so tedious seeing journalists and politicians constantly skirting around the obvious implication arising from Forstater that if it’s perfectly possible and reasonable not to believe in gender identity (i.e. to have gender critical beliefs), then gender identity must necessarily be a mere belief (as opposed to an indisputable fact) too.

This petition is brilliant, for four main reasons:

  1. it alerts the many members of the public who still don’t realise gender critical beliefs are protected (often because their employers have threatened disciplinary action for believing them) that they are;

  2. it emphasises the fact that gender identity ideology is in fact an ideology akin to any other philosophical belief or religion, and should be treated as such;

  3. it highlights perfectly that transactivists actually do want to take rights away from people with other protected characteristics, despite their claiming otherwise;

  4. a debate will have to acknowledge that ‘woman’ is a protected characteristic in law, since gender critical beliefs merely state this fact. How could it possibly be the case that the right to acknowledge what the law says is removed from us? That makes zero sense.

Well summarised!

SinnerBoy · 03/05/2025 07:17

I want it to hit a wall of about 5,000, so that they realise what a little group of fringe loonies they are. Almost 70,000,000 people and barely a fraction of a per cent interested enough to sign.

Boiledbeetle · 02/05/2025 13:57

I'm conflicted! This is patently a bonkers petition but I find myself wanting it to hit 10,000 just to see what the government respond with!

I know, right? I'm having to sit on my hands to stop myself signing it!

theilltemperedqueenofspacetime · 02/05/2025 13:14

Wait, what now? TRAs will petition parliament to make it legal to refuse goods, services, employment or accommodation to anyone who refuses to say that they believe that people can change sex?

No blacks, no dogs, no Irish no Professor Sir Robert Winston!

Oh yes. For all their "rights aren't pie", "we're not taking away anyone's rights" and "WHAAAAAHHH" they absolutely do want to take away people's rights, so long as those people are women or people believing in science. Or stating the law.

It's like the preschooler who feels wholly entitled to bite or hit anyone who annoys them but sobs with horror if the other child retaliates. And who changes the rules constantly in the game so that they win and the other kids lose, with stamping off and tears if the other kids don't enable it.

Developmental arrest is big in this movement.

None from my area either. Student life was much simpler in my day - people stood outside the union with petitions to bring down the price of cider and black to 50p, and they got their responses that way.

Errm, I was very militant indeed during my student days, demos, occupied the Senate building etc. Trouble is, I have no recollection at all of what I was militant about.
I'd like to think it was about the price of cider and black but I doubt very much it was anything nearly as sensible.

About 130 days & as the petition is open until 20th September they could theoretically just squeak in I suppose but I predict that it will fail to reach 5,000 & will be forgotten by next week.

TheOtherRaven · 03/05/2025 16:40

How many were on the petition to clarify the meaning of sex in the Equality Act? I think enough to get a 'yeah, no thanks' polite response from the govt.
