The London Marathon

London Marathon organisers will wait for reports from the Equality and Human Rights Commission and Sport England before taking any future decisions on the categorisation of transgender runners.

But he said that, when it came to the future of the mass-participation element of the race, he would wait for a “detailed report” by the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) on the Supreme Court ruling and another from Sport England before making any decisions.
He added: “We obviously will meet what the law says. But...there has to be that detail coming out of that commission and out of Sport England.”

It smells of them not liking the SC ruling.

fannies.

ArabellaScott · 24/04/2025 14:37

Sorry, did I type that out loud?

It's all crystal fucking clear.

Sort it out.

LadyFooFooFrankentits · 24/04/2025 14:39

How much fucking detail do they need?
The law is not a bloody range of options to pick and choose from for your requirements.

loveyouradvice · 24/04/2025 14:42

Well despite being signed up to UK Athletics they have flouted their rules for last two Marathons....

We cannot expect them to go down without kicking and squealing... or more likely they've decided they can't cope with Trans kicking and squealing, and that the sensible media option is to do it slowly, after this Marathon but before the next, when other organisations are doing it too so they will no longer be in the headlights...

TeiTetua · 24/04/2025 14:48

They'll do what's easiest, and they're hoping that Sport England comes out with a policy that will let it seem to be someone else's decision. It'll deflect conflict with the transmob, and avoid whatever internal struggle they might have between pro and anti trans factions. It's not exactly heroic, but it's a pragmatic plan. I'm sure plenty of us would do something similar.

myplace · 24/04/2025 14:51

They are waiting for someone else to be the target.

Delaying having to face the angry hordes who don’t like it when they don’t get their own way agree.

DragonRunor · 24/04/2025 14:58

For fucks sake, why do they think they need to protect the elite class (which of course they should) ? Why am I not entitled to the same courtesy, just because I don’t run very fast?

Boudiccaofsteel · 24/04/2025 17:39

we shouldn't permit public roads to be closed for this sexist event

spannasaurus · 24/04/2025 18:19

The championship and age group prize eligibility will be restricted by biological sex as well as the elite race.

TheOtherRaven · 24/04/2025 18:20

Ooh that's a nice kick into the long grass to avoid having to do anything difficult and time consuming like saying no to men, and then having to deal with the resulting tantrums. Much better to just go on quietly fucking over women and leave it for next year.

SwanOfThoseThings · 24/04/2025 18:26

I haven't read more than the opening of the article due to paywall, so apologies if this is covered, but isn't the mass event mixed sex? Both sexes run together and get individual timings rather than 'first past the post' because the start is staggered?

fannies.

neo-fannies, surely.

EasternStandard · 24/04/2025 19:15

Someone on the radio the other day spoke about the Boston Marathon.

There’s a women’s category which men identifying as women can enter

Non binary category

And men’s

When you think how many categories a man could potentially win it’s really something

fannies.

Nah. Fannies are warm and deep.

PerkyBlinder · 25/04/2025 01:18

I imagine it’s because it’s seen as hard to check in the mass race compared to the elite and championship start.

I ran it years ago and came about 1,000th in the women’s category. I was so proud as I’m a very average runner with zero natural talent but with training and hard work managed to place in the top 10% of women running. I hate that now my place would be pushed down by men running as women.

There are many men who can run faster than the world record for women and the Good For Age times are about forty minutes or so faster for men than for women.

will definitely be writing to them!

ArabellaScott · 25/04/2025 06:18

There's checking, and there's issuing a clear statement of the rules.

dynamiccactus · 26/04/2025 20:03

I fail to see how this complies with UKA rules. Just because it's mass participation doesn't mean it doesn't matter - the first female finishers in the mass race often get an elite place the following year. If they are pushed down by a male bodied person, that may not happen. I'd also like to know how it affects GFA places - does this mean that a woman getting a GFA time could be pushed out of the places by a male bodied person running as a woman?

It's completely mad. They can have a non binary category so have one and require people to run in it. And check ID for GFA. You might have people with a GRC and therefore a F in their passport but it's some degree of protection.

dynamiccactus · 26/04/2025 21:36

Just discovered on another thread that you can change the sex on your passport without a GRC. So that won't work!

murasaki · 27/04/2025 12:50

But if they need women's urine not men's, aren't they going to have a bit of an issue with polluted piss given their policy?
