I don't think he ever believed it - he (like many others) just went along with it because he thought it made him look progressive

Going by his statement I’d say he’s struggling more now.

So much repetition, just struggling generally showing lack of leadership.

NextRinny · 22/04/2025 22:05

Anyone heard from Angela Rayner? Isn't she still deputy?

Scout2016 · 22/04/2025 22:28

Of course he never actually believed it. He just thought he should pretend to, like an utter coward.

And if, as someone with legal qualifications, experience and a team of advisors, and the many people pointing out the error, IF he genuinely did read the legislation as saying TWAW for ALL circumstances, it's really bloody troubling. IF that was his interpretation. Because most lay people I know have found it fairly straightforward and lo, they were correct.
I don't know which is a worse trait for a PM - stupid or coward. I'm thinking the coward knowingly does harm so that's worse. Women won't forget.

Well, they might forget Starmer tbh, but they'll remember Labour deliberately screwing them over.

Circumferences · 22/04/2025 22:37

Wasn't it only last year he was saying "it's wrong to say that transwomen don't have a cervix" or some such other nonsense.

He's pathetic.

NotMyRealAccount · 22/04/2025 22:44

Starmer has been quite disappointing so far, but he is the Prime Minister and he has said in public that he accepts the Supreme Court's judgement and that transwomen are not women, and that's a significant swing of the pendulum. I hope there will be more to come (particularly an apology to Rosie Duffield) but in the meantime I'm not complaining.

TheHereticalOne · 22/04/2025 22:54

@Circumferences

Rosie Duffield said that only women have a cervix.

Starmer said, "it's not right" to say that and, "it's something that shouldn't be said".

David Lammy said, "I don't know if it's transphobic, but it's not, accurate." And, "I mean, obviously, it's probably the case that only, that trans women don't have ovaries. But a cervix, I understand, is something that you can have, following various procedures and hormone treatment and all the rest of it."

Cowardly or stupid?

For my money, it was all very, "do it to Julia!".

Contemptible.

mrshoho · 22/04/2025 23:00

It is brilliant to hear all these politicians stating their agreement with the ruling but at the same time I'm like wtf. It took a judgement from the SC for everyone to suddenly see sense. I just can't take any of them seriously and that goes for all parties.

Yes -
Correction: This article originally said that the ruling means that transgender women with a gender recognition certificate (GRC) can be excluded from single-sex spaces if "proportionate". However this is inaccurate and so this line has been removed from the story.

Fucking coward. Got receipts.

murasaki · 22/04/2025 23:40

Is he going to properly apologise to Rosie Duffield then?

HesSoBadHesGood · 22/04/2025 23:40

mids2019 · 22/04/2025 16:02

Good. Had to be done but finally leadership.

He's not leading though. He is waiting for someone else to proclaim, then following. Previously he "led" with transwomen are women, some women have penises, it is wrong to say only women have a cervix. That's not leadership either, that is crazy town and he is our Prime Minister. God save us.

Enough4me · 22/04/2025 23:40

It was just another lie for him, he'd say anything to get the job he wanted.

Too cowardly

Rummly · 22/04/2025 23:52

Starmer’s position - like all the other fools who took the same line - was that a woman was defined by the law, not by biology and common sense.

You could at least say of the trans mob that they pushed this crap because it got them the ‘rights’ they craved.

But, incredibly, Starmer actually believed the legal nonsense. Because he’s a half-witted opportunist who’s scared to think for himself and to speak honestly. It’s his cowardly self-interest, ultimately.

SmegmaCausesBV · 22/04/2025 23:53

Just in time for the local elections, well well well.
Maybe it's because they don't act like women - all the crime figures and entitlement? Finally convinced him.

I don't think he's convinced at all, but he's worried about the reform vote.

Well Reform is a TRA wet dream when they take their dresses off?

I doubt he was ever convinced by TWAW but mistakenly thought that’s where the wind was blowing. Now he’s probably relieved by the judgement but needs to get his house in order to mitigate the damage they’ve done to themselves and not hand the local elections to reform on a plate.

PaterPower · 23/04/2025 00:35

Starmer’s a “don’t like that opinion? Well wait five minutes and I’ll have a different one for you” kind of guy

Which he will drone at you as though he is holding his nose while doing an impression of a British Rail guard.

(1) Who on earth would have thought a week ago that we’d see that headline at the top of the BBC website?? I know we are not home and dry with it all yet but it really is amazing!
(2) Why does that Matt cartoon have a sensitive content warning? 🫣😆
