Single sex spaces...?

Sorry, this is a really silly question but I'm a bit confused about how different media have reacted to yesterday's Supreme court judgment.

The simple question is: are service providers required to provide single sex spaces, or is it simply that providers are not guilty of discrimination if they do provide single sex spaces?

In terms of service provders I mean any entity providing to the public facilities like toilets, changing rooms etc. So shops, gyms etc.

This but would have to be able to state why it should be single sex.

Which is no different than it has always been under the SSE.

It is just that for some reason more people listened to Stonewall that those who actually understood the law!

If it meets the threshold for a single sex exemption and claims to be a single sex service, space or sport, then it must exclude all people of the opposite sex including those with certificates.

there is (shockingly) no requirement to offer single sex spaces outside the workplace regulations, which do require single sex toilets and changing rooms.

If an organisation says they provide a single sex service, then that means single sex. So for example a charity that raises money on the basis of being a woman's refuge, can only offer that service to women.

Their alternative is to present themselves a a refuge for both sexes, but I suspect they'd soon find themselves low on funding. And customers.
