I'M NOT CIS

I was surprised to hear RMW calling women Cis. It's clear that many of us taking offence at this term hasn't filtered through. Did White believe that FWS were just taking a case to the Supreme Court for the fun of it and that the ruling didn't really make it clear that women meant biological women. He did also think that it would go the the ECHR eventually but he didn't sound so confident in that one.

I was really shocked to hear him use the term. I suppose we have to get used to fanatics not giving up on their beliefs. Speaking of which, is being GC still a protected belief, or is it now a fact?

i think the word 'cis' almost certainly has a healthy future as part of a specialist lexicon used by trans people. it'll likely never catch on more widely, for obvious reasons.

happydappy2 · 17/04/2025 12:14

Many, many men are not happy with the ruling yesterday and are gleefully posting pics of themselves with their fake boobs stating 'see you in the mens'

They don't seem to grasp that being the 'idea' of a woman, is not the same as being an actual woman, who grew up being a girl in a sexist world where boys were treated differently.

These men will continue to invade female only spaces....if I see one I will absolutely call them out though.

MikeRafone · 17/04/2025 12:18

If it’s cis woman, then is it non ciswoman for other people not born cis woman?

andtheworldrollson · 17/04/2025 12:22

It implies gender
therefore it doesn’t apply to me
i am nevertheless female - women is sufficienct and cis is exclusionary

FizzingAda · 17/04/2025 14:49

It immediately gets my back up and causes me to spit feathers. Perhaps we should respond by calling them transvestites.

Helleofabore · 17/04/2025 14:57

It is not liked by AIBU either.

Gone are the days when stray feminists would be called transphobic for rejecting what can only be described as a flawed reapplication of a word that had specific purpose that does not apply at all to humans.

CIS | Mumsnet

Just read an article about the Supreme Court judgement today. It repeatedly refers to Cis women. I get so unbelievably annoyed by that term. I am no...

At this point the flailing and words mean nothing.

I am a woman. As defined by the Equality Act.

And that's the end of it.

It will be a verbal marker of ideological beliefs.

A cisoleth as it were.

Oh this is such an important point. All the kids who grew up with penises (penii? never sure about that one) and have subsequently decided "oh I don't want this, I'm a woman really", just have NOT suffered the pain - and yes it is pain in many ways - of growing up with a vagina.
Yes I know that's putting things in simple terms, but that's what it comes down to.

here you are!

I am a woman. That statement doesn't need to be further qualified by "cis."

Burntt · 17/04/2025 18:21

It’s the equivalent of being called a heathen perhaps? Or maybe not because it’s still part of the ideology.

i agree I’m not cis. But I have found myself using it simply to make my meaning clear. Thankfully now we can say woman and it means ‘cis’

🤣

NumberTheory · 17/04/2025 19:07

The use of cis is a bit of a dog whistle, isn't it? A pretense at helpfully distinguishing between various sub-groups, but since it actually obfuscates it's really a signal. "I'm someone who wants to be able to erase women as a sex-class and make it impossible for them to organize or talk about themselves as a group. A misogynist. Come join me and agree with my logic-free mansplaining"

vandelier · 17/04/2025 19:12

A biological male transwoman who calls me cis (sis) is going to be called transvestite bro by me.
