This is chilling. Access to our money is what provides us food and shelter. For a bank to freeze your account with no warning and no reason would be bad enough. If this has come by request of the Canadian government to a political opponent is positively authoritarian.

However, her following remarks seem hypocritical. There are plenty of Americans who have been arrested for speech and wrongly detained under Trump. This is not 'hysterics' as Murphy may claim. It's wrong that Murphy's bank is frozen. And it's wrong that the US is arresting people for speech Trump doesn't like.

Canadians are mere weeks away from having their rights and freedoms completely disappeared, yet many remain in hysterics about Donald Trump and an electric vehicle company owned by an American man who has zero impact on the lives of regular Canadians.

1. Meghan Murphy has been fighting gender ideology since the early days. Her photo walking into a Canadian public library with her head held high, while surrounded by screaming TRAs is iconic
2. Murphy holds conservative views on some matters surrounding women’s places in the family, reproductive rights and other matters. We can support Murphy while not agreeing with her every position on everything.
3. No-one deserves to be debanked or have their accounts frozen. It’s authoritarian and the fact is, it is always so called progressives doing it to conservatives.

So if you are coming onto this thread justify why we shouldn’t be concerned about this happening because Murphy holds X, Y, Z views you can fuck right off.

This isn’t the first time Canada has done this. They did it to dozens (hundreds?) of truckers that rallied and wouldn’t disperse a few years ago. Froze their bank accounts and suddenly they couldn’t pay their mortgages to keep their homes and their wives couldn’t buy food for their children. I remember seeing panicked social media posts about it. It was a reprehensible thing to do.

I think many of them never got it back.

I am amazed that Canada looks like re-electing the government that did this to its own citizens.

Having Trump threaten to annex Canada has made Canadians turn against him - and anything associated with him - en masse. It’s quite hard on Murphy, who only turned to Trump over gender issues and is now caught up in the backlash.

However it is looking like some of the Conservatives are scared of entering the gender wars too hard in the election. No huge reaction from the party to Amy Hamm's firing for knowing biology so far. I suspect Fox might pick up on it and it will spread in the US.
