Women's rights general conversations - Thread 10

Continuation of Thread 9.

There is so much excellent information and so many active discussions on FWR that I wondered if it would be useful to have a thread to sort of "cross-fertilise" between them - airing little thoughts or vignettes that wouldn't themselves merit their own thread, to highlight other posts/threads of particular interest or to point to notable developments on fast-moving threads so that casual observers know where to look.

(For example, "the X thread has meandered onto a fascinating discussion of Y" or "Poster P's amazing analysis on thread Z might have relevance to the scenario in thread W" or "Has anybody noticed this recurring theme that keeps coming up??" or even "Random bloke asked me to smile while I was choosing onions in the supermarket, grr"- that sort of thing).

Afterwards before he returned it to Boots, he was curious as to its effect and tried it… yelled and fell down.

That made me laugh out loud. Quite slapstick.

I take my god daughter to music lessons and we have a bite to eat after. She had to cry off last time because of agonising period pain (she'd also missed college in the week). My sister suffered badly in her youth.

On the question of "equal rights" I think women should have extra rights because they do two things that blokes don't do. Both can be extremely debilitating and one is potentially crippling or fatal.

One of these rights could be to be able to select the most insensitive bloke they know, or just a bloke at random, who will have to try the tens machine 😆

For anyone not womaning correctly here's Just Melani saying we're allowed to say 'We do not care'. She's good. Three pairs of glasses and a panty liner stuck to her top, what's not to like 😅

This is so funny! She had me at spitting-out-the-top-of-the-highlighter-in-a-threatening-manner😂

The Pill was a real liberation for me too - more freedom to have sex with my BF was nice but the freedom from the pain was wonderful.
I managed school more or less ok because my periods were at least infrequent and I was bright enough to be able to take a couple of days off without significant impact. The climbers didn’t get to the throwing up from the pain stage did they?
Except for my bloody English lit o level which was one exam on the wrong day… I reckon that cost me a grade.Hmm

Agree, she does the 'hard stare' to perfection.

The best towels for towel turbans are IKEA's cheap, thin hand towels. Not the thicker, smaller ones, they fall off.

To make a towel (or any other) turban: Bend forwards. Drape towel over head with the edge at your hairline. Bring the ends together at your forehead, twist the ends together and tuck in at the back.

I got very good at turbans when I was having chemo!

Thank you - I’ve not seen Just Melani before. She is exactly like a fabulous boss I once had in the USA - she took no nonsense and had a perfect hard stare too!

I used to have a hand towel which I’d had since I was a student which had become very thin through many washings - that was perfect, until of course it disintegrated. Then I had a microfibre towel, a longer thinner rectangle than normal towels which was good but dd took that off to uni with her. Apart from using the ready made hair turbans with a button, I recently found an old baby towel, one of the ones with a triangular corner - that works well too, back to front.

I love the stare into camera for the "it works" after the glasses cleaning one.

It's taken its time to arrive, but alleluia!

27m people in Australia, and only about a quarter of a million in the NT. I suppose there's Darwin, and that's about it.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 16/10/2025 12:39

And I think the rest of Australia has always considered that the 'a bit mad' zone. Still, it's a start.

Except that now it’s the sane zone

I've signed it and I'll try to spread the word.

Yes, that's what I do, bend over and let my hair drop down, a corner in each hand and get the edge of the towel on my forehead and swing back, then twist it. Nowhere near as neat as the photos.

I'm obviously not manning at all! 55, long hair and a full head, like both my granddads.

moto748e · 16/10/2025 19:19

I can see a hit new ITV game-show! 😃

crabbyoldbat · 17/10/2025 11:08

get the edge of the towel on my forehead

This is where you're going wrong - the edge of the towel should be on the nape of your neck, then twist at the front, on the forehead, while you're bent down

Anyone know anything about Kate Mosse (with an 'e')? Just reading a piece by her in the NS.

Kucinghitam · 29/10/2025 15:03

No idea @moto748e, what is the article about?

She writes historical novels. I tried reading one once but didn't get very far. I don't know any more about her.

FarriersGirl · 29/10/2025 18:03

I have read a few of her books and follow her on SM as she comes across as intelligent and thoughtful. Not sure of her GC credentials but the article does seem to indicate she is interested in the fate of women and girls.
