“Some kids wear capes”

Thought I’d share this essentially fluffy piece about Shiloh Jolie. If only more ‘celebrity’ parents took this view.
“She likes to dress like a boy and wants her hair cut like a boy and she wanted to be called John for a while.
Some kids wear capes and want to be Superman and she wants to be like her brothers. It's who she is.”

Shiloh Jolie set for stardom after moving on from tomboy phase

The 18-year-old, who dropped her estranged father's surname , is a talented dancer who has been praised by her teacher for her dedication and 'consistency'.

I read Angelina’s take on Shiloh’s boy phase some time ago (maybe when Shiloh herself was in it) and was struck so much by how 70s/80s and grounded it seemed. It wasn’t just the implicit rejection of a trans identity for her child, it was the explicit embrace of we love to see our child explore, we look forward to seeing all the amazing things she will explore in the future. In other words, we are not going to ever shut her in a box and constrain her. That felt like the feminism that I grew up with. It’s presumably the feminism Angelina grew up with too — it’s interesting she hasn’t been influenced by the rest of Hollywood in this regard.

And she also seemed to have an acute awareness of a child’s temporary desire to be like an older sibling. Which has happened to children for hundreds (let’s say thousands) of years.
