Welcome all to the Bluestocking Pub, a haven safe from harsh reality [mostly] full of good company, and excellent food and drink served by the most efficient team of gerbils in the hospitality industry.

I wish I was going with you*. Great places to ignore the outside world, canals. Also, there are pubs.

*Obviously you might have a different view on this.

Have fun! I love messing about in boats, don’t get the opportunity to do nearly enough of it nowadays.

Have a lovely time, Banned.

A nice quiet relaxing time on the inland waterways - no running around shouting things like 'Aha me hearties!' and 'A vast behind!' and boarding other canal boats to steal their supplies at cutlass-point ...you're not Swashbuckled, remember😃

Absolutely @Bannedontherun

You leave all that to me 😊.

Have a wonderful time, @Bannedontherun - I hope the weather is kind to you.

I've got a friend arriving to stay for the Easter weekend, so I may not be around as much - please can someone check I don't get left behind, if we head off to the new thread!

ifIwerenotanandroid · 18/04/2025 15:32

I will think of you enviously as I do the weeding. Of which there is lots.

Not going to lie I may have left a box of ready made blunts in a drawer in the guest bedroom!

"To those celebrating the fact that I'm smoking a blunt: it's a cigar. Even if it decided to identify as a blunt for the purposes of this celebration, it would remain objectively, provably and demonstratively a cigar."

I was surprised Jo didn't go with the old Sigmund Freud quote: Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 18/04/2025 15:42

Living in a tourist area, it's sometimes best to stay home on holiday weekends to avoid grockles & jammed-up roads. It's also DH's birthday, & among his presents & treats are his favourite foods, so lots of beer & pies will be consumed this weekend.😂(Mind you, he had King prawns & 'cauliflower with turmeric' for lunch. Some days it's like I don't know him at all.)

lcakethereforeIam · 18/04/2025 16:03

Have a lovely Easter and all the boating.

I learned about something a few days ago that I'd never heard of before. Apparently, there are around 500,000 of them around the country. Although I've never seen one there are some near me and probably near anyone who lives in the UK. I'll be very impressed if any of you know wtf I'm wibbling on about. And then a little depressed because I'm so ignorant 🙃

Well we're each close to three rats, I've heard... but I can't imagine that prompting statement in the Bluestocking.
So I'm out..

Android, if you are talking grockles, do you live somewhere near me?

DeanElderberry · 18/04/2025 16:16

Benchmarks?

inkymoose · 18/04/2025 16:19

Fashion police?

Yes! @DeanElderberry has it!

Oh well done Deano!!👏
I knew nothing about benchmarks, and thanks to your intervention, Cake, I now know everything about benchmarks, including why they are called 'bench-marks'.
I love learning new things, especially fairly useless things like the origin of the term 'benchmark' - the more useless the fact, the more I like itSmile

That gerbil fur looks wrong. Have they been playing in the Dylon factory?

lcakethereforeIam · 18/04/2025 16:32

They remind me of the broad arrow the navy marks (marked?) all its stuff with. I'd like to see one in real life but I can't make head or tail of the abbreviations used and the ones near me seem to be on private houses.

I thought the gerbil fur looks wind ruffled.

I'm glad I wasn't too cryptic.

Eta we need a 'you're welcome' emoji.

Yes definitely a trig point rather than a benchmark - said she will all the confidence and authority of someone who didn't even know what a benchmark was just a few minutes agoGrin

That's rather a bloke-ish thing, isn't it? Pontificating on topics they don't really know very well at all, but with such bluster that they know most people, and deffo most women, won't challenge them...

There's a slight problem with those theodolites. None of the gerbils is tall enough to see through them!
