I hope this sharetoken works, my laptop has died a lonely death while I was away and I'm doing this from the phone.

Join me in my echo chamber! More from the Guilty Feminist

In Six Conversations We’re Scared to Have, the comedian Deborah Frances-White says we need to tackle difficult subjects. So why the same old lazy talking points?

Those who “genuinely care” about women in prison should be “campaigning to ensure that almost all women (including trans women) never see the inside of a prison”.

I can see no circumstances under which that might be abused by men who might wish to escape incarceration. No loophole for misuse at all, given the need for nothing but an assertion. (BRB. I have been sent opportunities to invest in magic beans 🫘 and a historical bridge. )

She appears to be the very definition of a puddle: both wet and shallow.

"The Guilty Feministst_^ started in 2015 as a place for Frances-White to share lightweight material for women who liked the idea of the “feminist” label but weren’t sure about the detail."

Ooooooffftt. 😂😂😂

She’s summarised EXACTLY what I thought of it. I don’t always agree with SD but she’s completely nailed it here 🔥 DFW is insufferably contemptible.

DFW really grates on me. For starters: she had Mridul Wadhwa on her poxy podcast.
No self respecting feminist would give him the time of day.

I've never listened to her podcast, but she was on an episode of Lucy Worsley's Lady Killers podcast about an Australian abortionist.

And DWF referred to 'people' and 'parent', instead of women, and mother.

She ain't no feminist, bruv.

I remember that episode. It was really distasteful, because she treated this abortionist - who was responsible for the death of two women - as some kind of feminist hero, as opposed to a mercenary woman who was simply exploiting other women's misery by charging them a fortune for unsafe abortions.

It's more of this ultra-simple thinking/progressive beliefs by numbers that typifies adherents of "woke". Abortion must be great because it's the opposite of what nasty conservative religious old pro-lifers want. No grey areas, no questions, you've been told feminism means being pro-abortion so no need to think things through yourself or take RL situations into account.

Same with trans - trans woman = automatically wonderful, stunning and brave, has women's best interests at heart, anyone who could possibly question that is a bigot/not a real feminist. Because, erm, someone told me that's what I'm meant to think and I got no further.

Not saying these two things are the same, but it's the same "won't think about that, just parrot what I think I'm supposed to think in order to be a good person".

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 05/04/2025 22:22

@RoyalCorgi DFW wants to get Elizabeth Taylor a pardon from the Australian government.

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 05/04/2025 22:23

You're spot on, @WhatterySquash

It's such black and white thinking. Which is what toddlers do.

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 05/04/2025 22:29

It reminds of the joyous Tweet from someone who was condemning JKR for saying 'awful things about trans people'.

Someone responded: Can you point us to some of the awful things? I'd love to read them.

They said: I don't know what she said, but people wouldn't be criticising her for nothing!

Yes and it’s scary that so many people are believing what they see on social media in that way. If someone is being slagged off you should surely by now realise that there are a lot of extreme beliefs, partisan feuds and lies flying around and that in itself doesn’t tell you much.

Onetimeonlyftw · 23/04/2025 20:11

Her book is excellent and tackles issues related to transgender identity, gender neutral/inclusive language, and feminism much more intelligently and compassionately than anyone on here. She take a long view to look back at moments in feminist history when lesbians were ostracised by other feminists and caricatured as threatening in much the same way trans people are today.

RoyalCorgi · 23/04/2025 20:26

And yet, Onetime, if you make the effort (heaven forbid) to read the Supreme Court judgement, it actually protects lesbians and gay men. Because guess what? Trans "rights" are directly in conflict with those lesbians.

If you haven't got the capacity to read the judgement, read Denis Kavanagh' blogpost:

Does it, aye?

Sorry posted on wrong thread...

To misquote the late Queen: "Interpretations may vary."

AstonScrapingsNameChange · 24/04/2025 11:54

Trans people aren't being 'caricatured as threatening' any more than men are 'caricatured as threatening' by the need for single sex spaces.

Trans people come in all varieties, just like everyone else, and some of them aren't very nice - like all the ones carrying violent signs while protesting a judgement of the highest court in the land.

My husband is lovely (and has long hair), but he doesn't insist on using the ladies.

Good men stay out so bad men stand out.

She’s on Triggernometry if anyone can bear to listen. I could only manage 10 minutes.

I’m working my way through it - it’s equal measures of amusingly batshit and painful. And it reminds me why I dont listen to her podcast.

The comments under the video sum it up nicely:

”Are trans women women?” Starts talking about clowns on buses for 20 minutes.

She writes a book about difficult conversations and goes on to demonstrate she can’t have a difficult conversation.

sandgreen · 01/05/2025 06:40

I can’t believe they’ve released it at nearly 2.5 hours long! Even their most genuinely knowledgeable guests don’t get much more than an hour from what I’ve seen, and this is waffle so far.

Them being overly smug about what an idiot she is and thinking they’ve given her role to hang herself by going to this length is a bit indulgent all round. Not sure I’ll get all the way through.

But as pp have said, it’s beyond moronic (word of the week) to write a book calling for difficult conversations and then show yourself incapable of having them.

Justme56 · 01/05/2025 07:14

I watched the first half hour and gave up. I really struggled with making much sense of what she was trying to say. She was all over the place, round the houses and back again, rambling on without getting to any particular point - no wonder it was 2.5 hours long.

ArabellaScott · 01/05/2025 07:59

I got as far as the bus driver clowns and gave up. Pointless self indulgent whiffle.

Helleofabore · 01/05/2025 09:08

I am gonna watch it now just to see the part about bus driver clowns!!

sandgreen · 01/05/2025 09:13

That was absolutely hilarious, to be honest. I burst out laughing on the bus!

ArabellaScott · 01/05/2025 09:13

It's a stunner of a non-sequitur.

Kisin asks her position on whether a man can become a woman, and her response is that you'd be surprised to find a clown driving your bus.

I'm not even kidding!
