Have y’all seen this? It’s now Le Leche League The Art of Breastfeeding. They’ve dropped that yucky womanly thing, because it is now considered a manly thing to do. Cover of the new edition book resplendent with a man with a suckling infant on the cover.

LLL lost their way [understatement] a while ago.

I hadn’t realized, this is truly sad for women.

I gave that book a swerve in 2014 because I thought the title was naff, I might have gotten it if it was just called The Art of Breastfeeding.

The man on the cover is just holding a baby. I assume the book has educational information about breastfeeding for fathers, to try and avoid situations like you see on MN where men tell their partners to bottle feed because they feel "left out" or "excluded".

You are way more generous than I am, Jason!

Have you worked out why you would see fully recognising something only woman do due to the biological nature of child birth as naff rather than as something to be recognised, supported, and celebrated? Its a complex social bias.

And LLL were busy geting rid of women who objected to males who wanted use hormones to breastfeed, so they were not going around saying pump and let your partner bottle feed.

Even though breastfeeding is exclusively for women, what about the men!? Reeeee

The LLL have embraced encouraging males to take a cocktail of drugs to induce nipple secretions to 'feed' their baby. [vom]

One of their founders resigned over this change from centering women, the cunty kind.

I was so desperate for help when I was breastfeeding that having a book with ‘womanly’ wouldn’t have deterred me. Losing it does feel like a loss though.

I would be questioning why someone who looks like a man who is just holding a baby is on the cover though. There seems no logic for that. It is unclear what the message is.

MarieDeGournay · 19/03/2025 09:22

It looks the the man on the cover is just holding the baby. In other words, completely irrelevant to breastfeeding. He's obviously just there because LLL can't think of leaving men out of anything, even something as obviously woman-specific as breastfeeding.
If he was 'chestfeeding' it would be grossly offensive; as it is, it's just a pathetic reminder that women aren't allowed have anything of our own any more😠

Cailleach1 · 19/03/2025 09:25

I wonder if they caution women from taking strong medicines and drugs that could end up in their milk whilst breastfeeding. All the while lauding men who take very dodgy cocktails of drugs which is present in any unnatural ooze they excrete.

Baby first for women only. Whilst making the baby incidental (or even to be a prop to be used) to the predilections of men.

LesbianNana · 19/03/2025 09:28

Where would the Womanly Art…erm my bad The Art of Breastfeeding be without a few chemical filled they or thems expressing pus for their infant to suckle hungrily, as they are not getting enough nutfients.

Yes. The person has no immediate relevance to the subject.

RandySavage · 19/03/2025 11:48

Annoyingly the title has been changed because of the handmaidens, not the men.
The male perverts who try to breastfeed consider themselves to be women, so 'womanly' in the title would be one of the few things they didn't find offensive. It's the transmen - the halfwits pretending that they are men even thought they've given birth and are breastfeeding - who will have demanded the change.
