Edinburgh WA are using the single-sex exemptions, as is their right, to protect the ability of women to access their group sessions and shared flats without a male presence. Policy linked from the bottom of https://edinwomensaid.co.uk/womens-support-services/ and screenshotted to this post. It won't archive because Archive chokes on Sharepoint.

The usual suspects have started a targeted campaign to overturn this policy, with their usual misrepresentation of the law. https://www.reddit.com/r/transgenderUK/comments/1j28w2z/edinburgh_womens_aid_has_introduced_a/ (Archive: https://archive.ph/DV5YK in case it gets deleted melts in contact with sunlight).

Please note that:

  1. EWA have not defined a woman as excluding TW.
  2. EWA have explicitly pledged to provide telephone, court, and drop-in support for women, which probably means supporting TW because of (1).
  3. EWA have said that they will signpost every caller to appropriate support, even if EWA cannot themselves help.
  4. EWA have not stated that they will refuse a single flat to a TW who needs it, only a space in a shared flat oe group session.

If you wanted evidence that it's the women, not the safe space, that they want, this is it.

How do we tell EWA that we support them, that women need them to stand firm, and we will help crowdfund for legal defence if they need it, without some poor minion having to sift through a million emails?

I gave them money, with a message saying thanks for their bravery in standing up for women. Crude, but likely effective, for those of us fortunate enough to be in a position to do it.

ArabellaScott · 08/03/2025 07:20

Messages of support is a great idea.

I've just done the same.

This is a brilliant idea. The haters won't donate.

I couldn't see any way to leave or send a message, but I hope that a small donation will show that women support them.

This a million times, they are saying the quiet part out very, very loud. Not enough that they will be signposted to services better suited to their needs, not enough that they will get support and help, just that support and help won't include traumatised women validating them.

Whineandcheese · 08/03/2025 12:20

Donated.

With today being International Women's Day, this is a great day to do this.

There's a small box on the financial info page, if you tick to leave a message a box to write something pops up.

Llamasarellovely · 08/03/2025 12:38

However I don't think messages are being made public. No doubt for fear of the #bekind brigade. However hopefully the centre gets to see them.

After you type the amount and click continue, scroll up. There's a bar where you can alter your amount and below that is a details bar to put a message and name.

Scroll down on the JustGiving page...

"Thanks for the statement, difficult as it is in the current Scottish political climate. Here's hoping it's just the beginning of the rebirth of (feminist) common sense. Love from south of the border."

And others.

The assault on women, led by a dick-swinging they/them continues. https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/5298440-edinburgh-council-vote-to-force-ewa-to-accept-males

Does anyone know where we can find the amendment and who voted for it? I would like to send a follow up email to my councillors. Thank you

LongOutBreath · 20/03/2025 21:16

If I could have a super power it would be to check the hard drives of these creeps

ArabellaScott · 21/03/2025 13:08

I can't find minutes, maybe they're only up a time after/approved at next meeting.

But here's the page: https://democracy.edinburgh.gov.uk/ieListDocuments.aspx?CId=150&MId=7298&Ver=4

Even more proof that it's the terrified women they want access to, not a safe refuge bed:

Ms Rodgers said the charity offered 20 spaces in its shared refuges, but trans women could access its 11 single-occupancy refuges. She said fewer than 1 per cent of the 2,336 women the charity worked with in 2024/25 were trans.
"Trans women impacted by domestic abuse can access all of our services, with the exception of group work and shared refuge,"

This is a misogynist men's entitlement movement.
