Brits - acceptance speech

I've been watching the Brits with DD, her first time and my first in over a decade. All good

She's a big fan of many of the singers and was enjoying and acceptance speech which veered into mentioning trans joy and the queer community. All fine, no problem from me to thank your communities. Then the next group to be thanked was 'sex workers'

"Without you all I wouldn't be here"

Hard to know what to say but I'm really taken aback a young woman is thanking the exploited community of sex workers for helping her win a Brit. What sort of message is this sending? Is this just yet anothet sign in getting old or is this something beyond?

She said they 'laid the ground' for her. Was she saying she has been similarly exploited perhaps? Or vilified? I don't know. It was a bit odd.

If it's a sign of getting old, then it's a badge I'm happy to accept. It's woke bullshit.

Mikey Madison said the same last week when she picked up her Bafta for best actress in Anora (she plays a sex worker).

There's some logic for an actress who may have had help from some for character research, but what it has to do with a music award . .?

If feminists wish to be enraged, the Brits in its entirety is worth a watch.

The whole night was a microcosm of feminism 40 years in the regressive, from half-naked women, simulated BJs, mentions of female artists selling anal sex toys, Jack Whitehall cheekily referencing a porn actress, to the gender-neutral category hosted by abuser Jared Leto, tedious shout-outs to all things queer drag trans sex work...

Plus most of the music was awful.

Sounds tempting, if only I didnt have all this drying paint to watch.

Agree! It's a bag of lurid shite. It'd be great to have an award for ground-breaking and inventive new music from young British musicians, cos I'm sure there's plenty out there. But this soft-porn tat certainly isn't it.

I despair for young women today who just want to make some bloody music. Something really needs change.

On the Oscars the director of Anora (i think...) also thanked sex workers and said something like they'd been so helpful to him over the years or some such .... which didn't seem like a good look!

It's this whole sex positivity thing and weird mission creep from the original fight for gay rights, which I totally support - the idea that no one should be persecuted for being same-sex attracted and having consenting adult same sex relationship - which has morphed into the idea that anything to do with sex is automatically fabulous - any sexual taste, activity or fetish however harmful, any "sex work", it's all glam and cool and a matter for "pride", no questions asked, and if you have questions or concerns you're a prude, bigot or of course "right wing" 🤦🏻‍♀️

Apparently the director has a history of making films about prostitutes 😐
