Domestic abuse charity bans trans women from services

I hope that the link works. This looks like the grown ups are back in charge.

I hope they hold fast. Brave women.

BeaTwix · 01/03/2025 18:24

Edinburgh Women's Aid is not the same organisation as Edinburgh rape crisis centre.

So while this is good news the obfuscation at the latter still remains.

https://edinwomensaid.co.uk

https://www.ercc.scot/women-only-services/
(Their website is slightly clearer than it was but women only can include TW, you need to read the small print...)

https://beirasplace.org.uk remain the only place in town with clear and transparent signposting for rape survivors.

RedToothBrush · 01/03/2025 18:26

I would think that what is happening in certain legal cases has helped with the bravery.

Igmum · 02/03/2025 08:54

Well done to the women doing this to protect vulnerable rape survivors. It's the right decision

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 02/03/2025 08:58

Different organisations.

There's already a thread on this.

Sorry. I couldn't find a thread.

Just to point out, @GargoylesofBeelzebub that this thread was actually the first one to go up, rather than yours.

Thanks. Was beginning to doubt myself as I did check.

Yes but that thread names the correct organisation

Ereshkigalangcleg · 02/03/2025 13:02

Yes, but not the point.

AshKeys · 02/03/2025 15:05

It is if you are looking for a discussion on a specific topic.

Cismyfatarse · 02/03/2025 15:55

I am very sorry. I posted in haste as I wanted to share the article as soon as I saw it in the paper. Also, share tokens don't always last that long.

I have asked for the thread title to be changed to ensure it meets all the requirements of the thread police.

OP posts:
Cismyfatarse · 02/03/2025 16:08

Thread title now correct.

It's about fucking time
Trans people are not the only people who matter. There must be balance and services that meet the needs of those groups too.

Cismyfatarse · 02/03/2025 20:15

I am fortunate enough never to have required these services, although I was sexually assaulted as a child in a mixed sex changing at a private pool. I was not offered any support and my father continued to do business with the man, which made me angrier and angrier as I aged and realised what had really been covered up.

I have watched in horror all that has been going on in Scotland and am pleased things seem to be changing, although only slowly and at huge cost to women, in their safety and dignity, as well as financially through legal action.

Call to Action - demo outside council office tomorrow. Scottish Women are not letting this happen without a response.

For Women Scotland

We'll be outside the City Chambers on Thurs at 9.15am for 9.30 for a protest against the vindictive motion to defund Edinburgh Women's Aid.

Please join us! And please share!

If you live in Edinburgh, please write to all your local councillors and urge them to vote against Cllr Staniforth's motion. Find your councillors' contact details here. https://democracy.edinburgh.gov.uk/mgMemberIndex.aspx?FN=WARD&VW=LIST&PIC=0

FlowchartRequired · 19/03/2025 08:47

Bloody hell, what an awful man. I hope his motion to defund EWA is thoroughly rejected.

Helleofabore · 19/03/2025 09:15

What a surprise that this person would be so willing to remove female single sex provision that would exclude him! Nothing to see here!

Good luck wims!!! If I was close by I would be there.

NebulousCatWhistler · 19/03/2025 17:18

Emails sent to my councillors. Thanks to everyone on both threads who put up links and info.

TheOtherRaven · 19/03/2025 17:28

Considering at the moment that men wishing to use women's services have much wider choices and options than women do, why is one solitary option not for men such an enormous issue?

I mean it's not as if I don't know. I do. From bitter experience.

But the absolute lack of tolerance, generosity or capacity to cope with women having anything they need alongside all the multiple options for men is reaching ASBO levels now.

And good grief doesn't it demonstrate exactly why women must have gatekept, legally water tight defended spaces that men cannot dominate, commandeer and control?

Coldiron · 20/03/2025 08:16

I have had a nice reply from my Labour councillor.

Their amendment to Stanilforth’s proposal starts with “delete all” 😄

Sorry I can’t join the demo today, you have a lovely morning for it

fromorbit · 20/03/2025 10:19

Great looking demo
