Schoolfriends, family members and neighbours are among the dozens of men arrested for the rape of a teenager in India.

An 18-year-old girl in Kerala reported to police the horrific sexual abuse that she suffered in the last five years in January.

Since then, a total of 58 men and boys have been arrested and accused of her sexual assault, rape and gang rape.

Another two men wanted in connection with the case have fled the country, it was reported.

Just like in France it seems that every country has men and boys who feel entitled to abuse women's bodies.

Although of course girls and women persuaded that "sex work" is a valid occupation experience this every day.

Can we also just call a spade a spade? It was child abuse too. This is all just way too horrifying.

You're right - EVERY country has.
And we have to realise that.
Sorry - no way am I victim-blaming (I've been a victim) - just stating the fact that we need to realise that men and boys EVERYWHERE should never be trusted.

Exactly - and depressingly could have started another thread today about the sugeon in France who is in court today for multiply charges of child abuse.

I'm daydreaming of males getting locked up by default, in a kind of reverse Afghanistan, until they can prove they are fit for human society and get released on licence.

Sometimes i imagine what it would be like if men were magically taken away for one night. I could walk around at night and not be afraid.

I just despair. But as I said we need to realise this and take whatever precautions we can. Some ppl say I'm victim-blaming. I say no, I was a victim when I was 14 (SA, not rape) and I want to make damn sure it doesn't happen again.

Yes! But like my equivalent thoughts, that obviously couldn't happen.
(As a teen who was SA'd at 14 I had a fantasy of penises being removed from boys at birth and only replaced at age 18 if the man passed various mental and physical tests.)
So the emphasis has to be on us and on prevention. Some ppl say I am victim-blaming. NO. I was a victim and I'm trying to make damn sure I'm not again.

Would you lock them up as babies, or wait until they were about 12?
I mean, it’s such a horrible idea. Like the pre-crime dept in Minority Report.

That poor, poor girl though, heartbreaking.

BlondiePortz · 25/02/2025 00:34

So where are the parents of these boys? both parents

What kind of environment would these boys have grown up in to do this?

Adults are to blame for any child doing this

IwantToRetire · 25/02/2025 00:37

I think they weren't just "boys" and if you have read the actual article how is it possible that her father let his phone be used.

Does this mean he condoned it?

Or was he just pimping her out?

Whatever happened, the bravery she has shown in going to the police, when all too often someone like her would not be believed, or even made to feel it was her fault and her shame.

It looks like the BBC reported this over a month ago.

But this recent article by CNN has more horrific details https://edition.cnn.com/2025/02/22/india/kerala-india-teen-rape-allegations-dst-intl-hnk/index.html

Really hope she is safe now. But where is the outrage that we saw in Kolkata? Kerala is often considered a state where equality exists and caste does not matter so much. Which brings us back to the problem of men.

And the fact that this scenario is an unachievable fantasy, while it is everyday reality for women in some countries, shows what a long way we have to go, even in our imagination …

OnGoldenPond · 25/02/2025 17:26

@Hairyesterdaygonetoday the difference being women in Afghanistan never get the chance to be released from their home prison Sad

DeadsoulsAngel · 25/02/2025 17:45

Oh that poor girl (now woman). My heart absolutely breaks for her. This has to be stopped, everywhere, now!
