would you say mumsnet these days is a safe space for a non-transphobic lesbian with children to hang out?

OP if you want a "safe space" build yourself a panic room, and stay away from Mumsnet, this place is for grown ups

Grown ups and badgers

And dragons. Dragon we even get our own MN emoticon, no need for newfangled emojis.
(Actually I think it might have been added for the Welsh one St David's day but they kept it)

Lived in yes, but @JanesLittleGirl and I are born and raised. We are locals. You know when you walk into the pub and they stop talking? That’s because they were talking about badgers.

24 hours later and this post and gif is still making me giggle.

Thank you 😃

Ah come back @rexrabbit. It's fun!

And cats. Although MN doesn’t have its own cat emoji Sad

MinnieMountain · 07/02/2025 05:43

My cat’s official birthday is St David’s day. I’d claim the dragon emoticon for her if I could find the bloody thing.

MummaBanana · 07/02/2025 05:56

This is not a safe space at all.

This is not a safe space at all.

And why should it be? Life's not 'safe'. What's with needing to mollycoddle everyone nowadays?

Helleofabore · 07/02/2025 06:50

If people are in need of public discussion spaces to be ‘safe’ especially for their needs, then they have to take on board that this is their own requirement. It is not up to the wider society to accommodate unreasonable expectations to curate public discussion boards to suit individuals. There are plenty of opportunities to use the spaces available that are specific to those needs.

Why ask as OP has? I would think it is safe to say many of us can probably fairly accurately guess why.

Waitingfordoggo · 07/02/2025 06:59

In what way is it unsafe @MummaBanana?

Actually could we have a definition of 'safe'? Its meaning seems to have chances in the past few years.

It's just dragon within square brackets

Huzzah!

DeanElderberry · 07/02/2025 08:31

Dragon Daffodil

o m g

but I had to put the heart in separately

DeanElderberry · 07/02/2025 08:34

I had a dog whose official birthday was 1st March. Nearly called him David, but didn't in the end because a bloke who worked in the garden sometimes was called David and the scope for confusion was too great.

TWETMIRF · 07/02/2025 09:08

My MIL's birthday is St David's Day. She's neither a dragon nor called David

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 07/02/2025 09:13

@MummaBanana - if by 'safe space' you mean somewhere where no-one will ever disagree with your views, or challenge them, and you will never hear an opinion or fact that you do not like, then no, this is not a safe space. What you want is an echo chamber.

I believe that sex is real and human beings cannot change sex - and MN is a safe space for me because I am allowed to say that. Other people are equally allowed to disagree with me.

SDTG, are you the only remaining wolef?

CapabilityBrownsHaHa · 07/02/2025 09:16

My grandmother had a March 1st birthday, but I think she was really a leap-year baby. My sister is a genuine March 1st. I should really look for a card....

BackToLurk · 07/02/2025 09:24

People who consider remote spaces 'unsafe' because of some potentially hurty words have never, in my experience, known actual danger.

EmpressaurusKitty · 07/02/2025 10:21

The irony is that people who worry about safe spaces online seem to be the ones least likely to worry about women having safe single-sex spaces in refuges, changing rooms, hospitals, prisons etc.

Indeed.
