she stated that her kid was trans, her sisters kids are trans, her best friends kid is trans and her kids best friend is trans.

The kids best friend thing fair enough as they probably hang out with like minded people.

But people still like to claim it’s not a social contagion when whole families are caught up in this bollocks.

How can people like her be so bloody minded and dumb?

I wonder how neglected these kids are.

I wonder how desperae for attention they all are.

This is like the thing about multiple choice tests - to actually score 0 on a large number of questions could be interpreted as a pass.

If you understood nothing about the topic you'd expect to get some right randomly.

So the doctors who have been "guessing" people's gender are somehow failing to score 50%. Weird.

And the next problem is - if all female people in a group have "male" gender, and all male people in the group have "female" gender - how can you justify still assigning the names "male" and "female" to those genders? Can a gender be "female" if no actual females have it?

And what would happen if the doctors called the girls "male" and boys "female"?

This reminds me of how convicted child rapist David Challenor had a biological son and a stepson who both identified as transwomen. Given that only 0.5% of the population (at most) are trans I remember thinking what a strange coincidence it was for this to happen.

However, I recall that in her book Time To Think, Hannah Barnes makes the point that children who went to the Tavistock with gender distress were 10 times more likely to have a parent who was a convicted sex offender.

I wonder if there are other things that young people who are confused about their gender have in common.

I only have vague memories of the program Ab Fab, but one of the episodes I watched had..um.. the Jennifer Saunders one [sorry, I did say 'vague'] pestering her straight-laced daughter 'Are you sure you're not gay dahling? really? definitely not gay? not even a little bit lesbian?' because it would have been so cool for her to have a lesbian daughter.

Any resemblance between ..Edina I think it was ..and real-life Cynthia Nixon would be entirely coincidental!

It sounds like 100% fad/fashion/contagion/wanting to be in with the cool kids to me.

I'm just surprised that all these show-biz kids haven't rebelled into wearing sensible shoes and nice cardis and taking up accountancy, like... Saffi, that was the daughter's name, it's all flooding back!

Maybe celebrity parents pretend to be so proud of their trans kids in the hopes that they'll think 'Oh gross, mom thinks it's cool ..'😄

Trans identities thrive in the most elite/educated echelons of society and amongst the most distressed. The Tavistock figures showed that nearly all the kids who went there had other issues. As well as sex offender parent there was having learning disabilities, autism, mental health problems, being fostered or adopted....

And incidentally, how do you copy and paste and turn it bold? Or do you just type it yourself in bold? I use an iPad mostly if that makes a difference, without a mouse.

It baffles me how people can hear her say that and not immediately think social contagion. And also question the 'extreme minority'.

@ThisIsMyYearToFindMyself If you copy your text, put an asterisk where you want it to go, then paste, and put another asterisk after the text you want bold, it will become bold.

(that’s what I just did with the quote from your post - also on a mouseless ipad. Works the same for italics, just do a circumflex instead of the asterisk)

Or when you compose your text, highlight the bit you want to bold underline strike through or italicise and use the icons at the bottom of the message box (I'd been on MN for about 18 months before I noticed them and have no idea what the little chain and the dustbin do).

I can promise Cynthia I'm far more sickened by adults who are so sure of their own virtue that they don't stop to wonder whether it's ethical to treat children who are different with extreme surgery.

I genuinely cannot believe that anyone with any intelligence can see the huge rise in “trans kids” to the extent she describes as at the very least unusual ?

Does she not think it at least worthy of pausing to do a bit of research ? No ?

So, so many A listers have trans children it’s crazy. She ruined AJLT by bringing her own agenda into it.

I’m pretty sure the procedure being referred to for the 12yr olds was the puberty-blocking hormone implant, not the double mastectomy. Still awful but less so.

It is horrific that pre-teen children are being subjected to this abuse. I never though I'd say hooray for Donald Trump, but right now, on this subject, hooray for Donald Trump.
