Times Radio interview with Gender Plus

I only caught a short segment of this in the car at lunchtime so not sure how the interview started but heard someone from GenderPlus insisting that detransitioners are a tiny weeny percentage and that watching and waiting is detrimental to young people.

Did anyone hear the full interview?

Weird

I can't find any mention of it anywhere!

I heard all of it, and the Bayswater woman beforehand. Adrian is full of crap and Andrew knows it and Adrian knows Andrew knows it. The woman was excellent, clear, knowledgable, absolutely right.

Ah thank you @AnneLovesGilbert - glad I didn't make it up?!

What was it all in reference to?

I head the Gender Plus bloke call Bayswater and anti transgender group and there being push back on calling their more cautious approach transphobic. I felt for any parent who has nurtured their distressed teen through those choppy waters being so cruelly accused of having any agenda other than wanting the best for their child (sneeringly described as a "non trans outcome")

You can catch up on the app if you have it, AN was on 1-2 and I think it was the second half. There wasn’t much preamble to the segment, AN said that children were still being prescribed cross sex hormones through private companies and the Bayswater woman explained what was happening, named GenderGP and Gender Plus, said unlike puberty blockers there’s definitely no way back from them. Adrian said it’s all good, the NHS is on board, claimed they do turn some kids away, no prescriptions to under 16s. AN was dubious. All very amicable on the surface. AN is doing very good work, he had a long interview with Rosie late last year.

Brilliant thank you @AnneLovesGilbert . It is so interesting to just happen across stuff like this when not that long ago there was absolutely no mention of things like the Allison Bailey case etc.

Absolutely. AN mentioned Keira Bell either in the intro or to the Bayswater woman. There are some excellent people on Times radio. Regular contributors are Kathleen Stock, Janice Turner, Rosie Duffield. I wish they’d stop ever having fucking Tatchell on, who makes me want to throw stuff at the radio, but most of the presenters are very sensible and the tone of the discussions is usually extremely moderate, thoughtful, considerate and grown up.

Yes this was a great interview Isabel was very calm and coherent. Well done times radio, the person from gender plus was clearly struggling to avoid the truth and resorted to calling out good parenting as transphobia, that old trope, AN pushed back politely and was on the side of common sense

HousesofHolbein · 04/02/2025 09:44

Was Isabel the Bayswater rep? Shame she didn't get to respond to the accusations of transphobia.

I found it odd that the GP replied asked AN, "what harm is being caused if you wait and see" because I was thinking he himself should answer that and clearly explain what evidence there is for that?
