Police Scotland hires OnlyFans ‘kink creator’ as face of domestic abuse campaign

Force branded ‘irresponsible’ for casting porn star in advert about consent

Police Scotland has recruited an OnlyFans porn actor to star in a domestic violence campaign.

The force used Ross Rankin, a Glasgow-based content creator known online as Rossy, to feature in a campaign that targets young men, urging them to recognise “toxic behaviour” to prevent "abusive relationships" from developing.

But it has faced severe criticism for casting the 25-year-old, who has published a series of gay porn videos on his publicly available X account, in which he describes himself as a “little Scottish boy that can take a lot”.

(Cant help but wonder whether there is some sort of competition going on in Scotland by various authorities to see who can get the most headines in the Telegraph!)

Did they think nobody would notice? Or care?

It’s hard to say without seeing the full article. New Zealand used a couple of porn stars in a consent ad a few years ago very successfully ( )

I wonder if the thinking is that if people’s concept of consent is being screwed up by porn, then those addled will listen more to someone from the industry.

But again, can’t read the article so hard to say.

I know this isn't the point of the thread but it makes me so sad that these young people think that making porn content is a legitimate and worthy career route. How has it come to this? I worry about my own children.

There was a thread on AIBU recently where a mum had discovered via her daughter that her daughter's friend was selling herself on OF and was upset as she knew the girl's mum. So many comments saying it was her choice, etc etc. Yes, and it's this young man's choice too. But what I'm asking is why? WHY?

I can't imagine sitting round the dinner table at Christmas and updating granny on how the pornography "job" is going. So much sexual exploitation is already known about that industry, and I don't think anyone is really immune, even the ones that say they are. So why? I realise maybe I'm coming across as a pearl clutcher but I just don't understand how a seedy, exploitative industry would be something young people would choose to work in.

Anyway back to the absolute lunacy of Police Scotland. Yes, idiots. But not surprising.

Archive link if anyone needs it. There is a still image in it which is an image of him being choked, just as a heads up.

Police Scotland - and public sector in Scotland generally - is a fucking embarrassment

There was also a story from Belfast about someone totally inappropriate being hired to be the face of LGBTQI+ celebration. I think there was a thread at the time.

Just watched this and agree these adds are actually really good

I completely agree. I've found the rise of OF incredibly depressing. Rates of drug addiction and suicide are incredibly high among traditional porn workers and these young (primarily) women in OF are at risk of the same (though it is too early for them to realise that yet) but it harms all women and men, reinforcing the idea that women's bodies are commodities be purchased.

Saw that thread. I got some laugh emojis for suggesting what she was doing was a bad idea. I don't know how we have ended up here, but porn sellers have made it a censorship issue, when it isn't.
