That's it really.

The Olympics sets the tone and standard. Male participation in female sport is a big problem worldwide.
This was the tally over a 9-month period, seems to be limited to North America. Over 578 male athletes displacing women and girls.

This notes over 5,000 males up to Sep 2024 and is not comprehensive.

That's the point where it can't be made to look anything but silly.

A field consisting entirely of men who pretend to be women!

Maybe refer to the Boston marathon non-binary category for a very good example of silliness!

Im not sure that providing a platform, prize money etc to mediocre males is really such a good use of spot’s limited resources. They will then just use that platform to claim ‘stunning and brave’. And of course there will likely be no places for transmen, unless they’re hopped up on testosterone. Much better to treat everyone the same - compete in your own sex category, at the level that’s right for you

Wasn't imane khelif female but people just thought she had a manly face?

No. He's suspected to be an actual biological male with DSD, like Caster Semenya.

No one has a problem with an amazing, super strong butch woman. In fact, we'll be very supporting.

usser3245343 · 28/01/2025 09:02

There is no ban - just a restoration of male and female categories.

SabrinaThwaite · 28/01/2025 09:04

World Aquatics tried introducing an open category alongside the men’s and women’s ones for the World Cup in October 2023 and then cancelled it because there were zero entries.

I didn’t see it that way. I saw it as him being hamstrung legally by the parameters set out by the Cas ruling and he then went on and implemented a full ban on males.

I'm sure that it isn't a full ban, unless there is a more recent version than the 2023 policy? The conditions are basically not having gone through male puberty plus testosterone suppression - which they will take the athletes' word for. Applies at elite level.

Men cheating in women's categories face blanket ban. This cheating should never have happened in the first place.

Yes just reinstate male and female with testing included

HarpyOfACertainAge · 28/01/2025 09:15

Surely whoever takes over, regardless of their stance, will not want a repeat of the debacle of the boxing at the last Olympics? This issue isn't going to go away. If anything, there will be more anger next time if the IOC don't sort it out. They can't bury their heads in the sand and pretend this isn't harming women's sports.

dangandblast · 28/01/2025 09:17

So sad that the Olympics will be destroying male athletes' hopes and dreams of competing in the women's category.

I eagerly await their sob stories being publicised widely while female athletes are once again ignored.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 28/01/2025 09:17

Exactly. It's extremely simple. There wouldn't have been all this angst if they'd just done this. Khelif would have simply not been found eligible to box in the female category.

Signalbox · 28/01/2025 09:26

Kirsty Coventry says she doesn’t think the scenario at the last Olympics was predictable. Despite the fact that we’ve all been predicting such a scenario for years and the same scenario has played out in athletics for years. I don’t think this woman is a good candidate. She clearly doesn’t have the guts to stand up against the ideologues. Either that or she’s hard of thinking.

DesperatleySeekingWeightLoss · 28/01/2025 11:17

Chersfrozenface · 27/01/2025 20:20

The wording of first paragraph is better than the headline (my bolding).

"Transgender women are increasingly likely to be banned from the female category across Olympic sport after another leading candidate to become International Olympic Committee president backed a new blanket."

I think headline writers are web / broadsheet formatters/typesetters. Definitely not journalists.

A better opening paragraph (and title) would be "Males to be banned in women's Olympics sports".

Or at least, "Males who identify as women to be banned in women's Olympics sports".

duc748 · 28/01/2025 11:38

I agree with the PP who said that this talk of a "transgender ban" is ridiculous. There is no such thing, and this is deliberately misleading. Cui bono? Everyone does it, but when done by 'supportive' media outlets, it feels like a kick in the teeth. Why give ammunition to those who would paint GC people as bigots?

K2togm1 · 28/01/2025 11:50

Misleading headline, transgender athletes will have to compete in their on sex category, just like 'trans men' have been doing, or 'non-binary' females. Plus using DSDs as part of being transgender I find incredibly offensive.

It boils my piss when people say shit like this.

It's been fucking obvious to anyone paying attention.

Saying it wasn't predictable is just an admission you've been caught napping.

Literally nothing of this scale comes to pass without fair warning and indications of a problem long before it becomes a crisis.

NextRinny · 28/01/2025 13:02

The headline is misleading. This only applies to male transgender athletes.

Female transgender athletes can't compete in any Olympic sport even without formal bans.

They are eliminated from female sport because of their testosterone usage. And eliminated from male elite competitions because their bodies just can't compete with males at that level.

It's all a bit male centric.

Female trans athletes can and do compete in the Olympics in the female category without restriction so long as they aren't doping with testosterone. examples are Quinn, a woman who claims to be non-binary (football), and Alana Smith, a "non-binary" girl (skateboarding).

duc748 · 28/01/2025 14:00

Quinn's not a transman, though. She's a woman with short hair. And opinions.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 28/01/2025 14:07

There was a transman in last year's boxing, wasn't there?

Justaspy · 28/01/2025 15:28

Very strange how most forums have the same outlook yet the media keep pushing that this is a far bigger deal.

lifeturnsonadime · 28/01/2025 18:03

The solution is incredibly simple.

A simple cheek swab for a sex test then either female category or open anyone who doesn't qualify as female so, men or anyone else who is male but is unhappy with the word man.

The problem class is actually trans identifying females who may fall foul of doping regulations.

I think we've already established that no one cares about them.

Of course they don't. Collateral damage all the way.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 28/01/2025 18:11

Well, Trump said some time ago that if he was President, men will not be competing in woman’s events at the Los Angeles Olympics ( and they only recognise two ‘genders’ in the US now).

So unless they want to raise a lot of money( to replace state sponsorship) , or find an alternative venue 😂, thé Olympic committee are just going to have to lump it.
