That's it really.

OP posts:

I'd be interested in how they manage trans male participation, after all the only trans athletes at the last olympics were trans men.

Who were they, out of interest?

Iamnotalemming · 28/01/2025 07:42

I would weep with happiness if women's sport could be restored to women - if the Olympics do it, hopefully that would give courage to everyone else. But they also need to reinstate sex testing for reasons given upthread.

I think this is because the most compelling arguments about trans competitors concern hormone levels and developmental characteristics after puberty, so those arguments would pertain to women with DSD as well as trans women. It certainly shouldn't label Khelif as trans (because she isnt)

The most compelling arguments against transwomen and DSD competitors in female sport are that they are male.

If females are in female sport there's no issue as long as long as they don't take testosterone.

Did the 2 DSD boxers have bouts against each other? I thought they were in different weight classes.

Yes, you're right.

Simple just make a ‘transgender’ category to race themselves. If you identify as a female and born as female race against females, like wise for males. If you identify otherwise and then race against those who identify otherwise with you.

What is the point of a transgender category? Identities are irrelevant to athletic ability.

RedToothBrush · 28/01/2025 07:57

Why is it always framed as 'trans banned' not 'female protected as single sex only'?

Even by elements of the press who are supportive of the point?

It's obviously because the headline gets more clicks but it's still as if women don't matter and it must be centred around males because feminism isn't worth sticking up for.

Viviennemary · 28/01/2025 08:00

Not before time. But I think inter-sex athletes are a different case.

And they always say "transgender"/"trans" rather than "male", or even "male transgender".

A note of caution. Seb Coe and Kirsty Coventry are only two of the seven candidates for the post of President of the IOC.

I don't know the stance of the other five on this issue. But one of them is the son of Juan Antonio Samaranch, during whose presidency testing for sex verification was abandoned.

The Olympics don't want an American boycott. And the next Olympics are in America within Trump's current term.

Given this context, it would be very very difficult for any of the incoming IOC candidates to take a different position.

I note it's about trans competitors not intersex too. Intersex may yet be treated differently, but for trans competitors there is simply not going to be a different outcome.

Because as always the male is far more important than the females 😡

Good

Wasn't imane khelif female but people just thought she had a manly face?

No.

WandaSiri · 28/01/2025 08:31

I'm torn - of the candidates who claim they will protect female sport, Coe is the frontrunner. But I don't trust him to actually ringfence women's events because he allows males in women's athletics under certain conditions, just not at all levels. A win for him could further entrench the principle of participation of male people in women's sport.

Ah, I hadn't clocked about the next Olympics. Serendipity!

If you include the Paraolympics, there was a trans woman sprinter, Petrillo.

There is no such thing as intersex. Kalif has DSD, he probably has an extra X chromosone so he is XXY, BUT it is the Y chromosone that results in a male pubery. He will produce testosterone like any other male along with a male physic.

As a baby he would have had ambiguous genitalia, however this is a secondary sex characteristic. As puberty hit it would have been obvious.

If you have a Y you're a guy...

Ereshkigalangcleg · 28/01/2025 08:44

Khelif is a male with a male DSD.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 28/01/2025 08:46

It's thought Khelif is XY with 5 ARD exactly as Caster Semenya was proven to be in the Court of Arbitration.

That's the point where it can't be made to look anything but silly.

A field consisting entirely of men who pretend to be women!

Correct. He is 100% male.

I didn’t see it that way. I saw it as him being hamstrung legally by the parameters set out by the Cas ruling and he then went on and implemented a full ban on males.
