'Neopronouns'

This gem came around work today and we are expected to follow with a straight face. Pasting below in case the image doesn't upload.

As we continue to foster inclusive environments at work, it's important to understand and respect individuals who use neopronouns. Though not yet common, neopronouns are gaining traction, particularly among trans and nonbinary individuals. For those unfamiliar, these new pronouns may initially seem challenging to grasp, but they're really not as daunting as they appear. Note that some people avoid presenting as their true identity in the workplace in fear of transphobia and bullying. Let’s change this together!

What are Neopronouns?

Neopronouns are gender-neutral or nonbinary pronouns that offer alternatives to traditional categories like he, she, or they. They provide a more accurate reflection of one's gender identity. Some widely used neopronouns include:
▪️ Ze, zir, and zirs
▪️ Xe, xir, and xirs
▪️ Ve, vir, and vis
▪️ Ey, em, and eirs
▪️ Ne, nem, and nir
▪️ And many others!

There’s no need to memorize them all — just approach each situation with an open mind.

💜 Supporting Neopronoun Users 💜

🏳️‍🌈 Ask for Clarification: If you meet someone who uses neopronouns, don’t hesitate to ask how to use them correctly. This shows your support and willingness to learn.
🏳️‍🌈 Apologize and Adjust: If you misstep, simply say "sorry" and aim to do better next time. We all grow and learn respect for one another every day.
🏳️‍🌈 Educate Yourself: Resources like the Pronouns Page provide a comprehensive catalog of gender pronouns in multiple languages, helping you understand the linguistics behind them.

For further insights on neopronouns, I recommend reading the Kinkly article linked in the comments below.

Together, let's build a more inclusive workplace where everyone's identity is respected.

That email was plainly written by ChatGPT. The first and last sentences are the giveaway.

ItIsEverywhere · 16/01/2025 17:40

We had this in training once. I asked where there were so many options (at a pinch I can understand Xe as an alternative to They) and the only answer was that I needed to respect what people chose. 🙄

OldCrone · 16/01/2025 17:55

Sounds like your company is somewhat behind the curve. Whilst neopronouns were a bit of a 'thing' a couple of years ago, they seem to have been dropped somewhat more recently. Definitely not "gaining traction"!

Yes, Mr Menno's neopronouns song is 4 years old.

<Spits tea out> i would be tempted to rise to that, and turn up to work in my PJ’s identifying as bed ridden.

zeddybrek · 16/01/2025 21:17

No. Just no.

Someone please stop this madness.

What percentage of the general population does this impact??

TWETMIRF · 16/01/2025 21:18

I suspect if anyone explained how their disability prevented them from being able to use nonsense pronouns then they would find that there would be no reasonable adjustments allowed

Bannedontherun · 16/01/2025 21:20

@TWETMIRF well there is a thought I am translexic.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/01/2025 21:21

This is the kind of thing which needs to be submitted to the Supreme Court in future when they ultimately examine whether gender identity belief is WORIADS.

HermioneWeasley · 16/01/2025 21:25

Someone in your workplace has too much time on their hands, I suggest a cost saving

HoppityBun · 16/01/2025 21:26

FFS

I see others have spotted the kinkly link. The below is copy and paste from where that link goes

"Kinkly is the leading digital destination for adult sex ed. Since 2012, we've brought together sex educators, bloggers, writers, reviewers, and other industry experts to provide our readers with information about sex in a way that is open, accessible, fun, and pleasure-oriented. Over 290k readers visit Kinkly each month to access curated content that empowers them to explore their desire for a variety of sexual experiences—without stigma, judgement, or shame. "

Burntt · 16/01/2025 21:54

If trans is about gender and isn't a sexual kink why are so many of the resources often suggested within the trans movement itself so focused around sexual pleasure and kink?? 🤔

dear god. ffs just use my name - that's all they need to know, my name. My sexuality and gender is no ones business and I have no interest in anybody else's bedroom preferences. Unfortunately I am not sure that flys these days - all part of this 'bring your whole self to work' nonsense.

Ladyluckinred · 16/01/2025 22:18

that offer alternatives to traditional categories like he, she, or they”.

When did ‘they’ fall in the ‘traditional’ category?

So entitled. So controlling. So would not be doing any of this. What a load of effort for something that will change in a weeks time when another round of pronouns come out.

I’d feel like a twat saying any of these ‘pronouns’. “Marv, pass the stapler to Zer, Zee really needs it”. It sounds stupid. It is stupid.

TWETMIRF · 16/01/2025 22:19

Marv, pass the stapler to the attention seeking wanker works much better

Haha! This guy identifies as transeverything. Seems like the most logical solution!

Totally.

And show that if you don't understand it, it links you to a site about sex. You know, to clarify

🤣

fashionqueen0123 · 16/01/2025 22:34

This has to be a joke.

Looks like a foreign language grammar lesson in verbs

Ingenieur · 16/01/2025 23:12

Neopronouns are so yesterday.

Xenopronouns are the only cool pronouns

Snowypeaks · 16/01/2025 23:26

Neoprene nouns are the real hipster choice.
Nero pronouns for the classicists among us.

lurchermummy · 17/01/2025 00:19

I am so glad I am self employed and don't have to deal with this sort of shite.

Keenovay · 17/01/2025 11:55

I increasingly view "suggestions" like this as loyalty tests. Although the text here seems bright, breezy and forgiving, this is a difficult, outrageous demand that takes up major cognitive processing space and interrupts the natural flow of conversation. It inevitably sets you up to fail, and the test is how you react to your failure.

A friend has changed their name and pronouns three times now, and I am completely fed up with her/them/him. I resent having to pretend they've always been a man; listen as they tell me how different they feel as a man; be told I do something because I am a woman; suffer the performative manspreading and overtalking.

Our friendship is coming to an end, as I just can't disguise my scepticism any more. It's sad because she used to be a real feminist ally, and now comes out with generalisms about men and women that would embarrass a 1980s standup.

Another friend from the same former feminist network polices my pronouns, even when the party in question isn't the room with us. I detest how this movement has divided women.

TwistedWonder · 17/01/2025 13:14

I’m an HR manager and I can honestly say if I get a CV with ludicrous made up pronouns, it goes in the shredder because you know these people will be drama llamas who think they’re more special than the rest of us boring old farts

isthesolution · 17/01/2025 13:20

Once everyone above the age of ten can corrently use they're / there / their perhaps we can move on to more complex matters such as making up new words for words that already exist.

In the meantime let's see if we can get the basics first!
