'Neopronouns'

This gem came around work today and we are expected to follow with a straight face. Pasting below in case the image doesn't upload.

As we continue to foster inclusive environments at work, it's important to understand and respect individuals who use neopronouns. Though not yet common, neopronouns are gaining traction, particularly among trans and nonbinary individuals. For those unfamiliar, these new pronouns may initially seem challenging to grasp, but they're really not as daunting as they appear. Note that some people avoid presenting as their true identity in the workplace in fear of transphobia and bullying. Let’s change this together!

What are Neopronouns?

Neopronouns are gender-neutral or nonbinary pronouns that offer alternatives to traditional categories like he, she, or they. They provide a more accurate reflection of one's gender identity. Some widely used neopronouns include:
▪️ Ze, zir, and zirs
▪️ Xe, xir, and xirs
▪️ Ve, vir, and vis
▪️ Ey, em, and eirs
▪️ Ne, nem, and nir
▪️ And many others!

There’s no need to memorize them all — just approach each situation with an open mind.

💜 Supporting Neopronoun Users 💜

🏳️‍🌈 Ask for Clarification: If you meet someone who uses neopronouns, don’t hesitate to ask how to use them correctly. This shows your support and willingness to learn.
🏳️‍🌈 Apologize and Adjust: If you misstep, simply say "sorry" and aim to do better next time. We all grow and learn respect for one another every day.
🏳️‍🌈 Educate Yourself: Resources like the Pronouns Page provide a comprehensive catalog of gender pronouns in multiple languages, helping you understand the linguistics behind them.

For further insights on neopronouns, I recommend reading the Kinkly article linked in the comments below.

Together, let's build a more inclusive workplace where everyone's identity is respected.

Theuniversalshere1 · 16/01/2025 16:47

Is this like him He his but different? Or something else?

Theuniversalshere1 · 16/01/2025 16:47

What do they represent in gender?

The website linked to for "further insights" is completely inappropriate to expect people to access in a workplace setting.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/01/2025 16:51

You will probably find that the organisation has let their E&D lead or LGBTQ group go wild without actually paying much attention to what they are sending out.

pickleslag · 16/01/2025 16:51

Fuck that.

That's probably deliberate as well.

Chersfrozenface · 16/01/2025 16:52

I'd find that this triggered my borderline dyslexia and demand that reasonable adjustments be made i.e. that I be allowed to use any pronoun my brain produced in the moment.

Dyslexia is a disability.

Oh, and I'd be getting a sunflower lanyard. You can get them on Amazon.

Justme56 · 16/01/2025 16:54

Going to say the same. Kinkly - Straight up talk about sex!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/01/2025 16:54

Is this like him He his but different? Or something else?

Yes, they are alternative pronouns for people who don't feel that even "they/them" pronouns are representative enough of their specific self image.

Snowypeaks · 16/01/2025 16:54

The trans and nonbinary staff are not neopronoun users, though, are they? They're trying to make you use them.

AlisonDonut · 16/01/2025 16:54

Is this official from HR?

ErrolTheDragon · 16/01/2025 16:55

They're really not.
Not many workplaces will be suggesting you go to a site called 'Kinkly' for further info. Curious what sector you're in?

Together, let's build a more inclusive workplace where everyone's identity is respected.

Except those whose identity is rational and prefers normal grammatical rules?

Anyhow... the only way to deal with these if any people they have 'neopronouns' is to realise they don't want you to use pronouns at all for them but rather a set of nicknames with a different one in various grammatical contexts.

Marylou2 · 16/01/2025 16:56

I'd just think that their work wasn't at the forefront of their minds based on this nonsense. People are under enough stress without having to deal with this drama.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/01/2025 16:56

The only way to deal with these is not to play.

ErrolTheDragon · 16/01/2025 16:57

I mangled my last sentence but I'm sure you'll all cope, grammar is obviously optional nowadays,

WitchyWitcherson · 16/01/2025 16:57

Ask for TERF/TERFself as yours 😂

Snowypeaks · 16/01/2025 16:59

Unlawful policy, I reckon.

SpinUp2 · 16/01/2025 17:11

I'd just follow the guidance given 'no need to memorise them'
(Though memorise is with a z - an American company?)
Just get 'corrected' each time.

Hoardasurass · 16/01/2025 17:13

That would be a hard no from me

HaddyAbrams · 16/01/2025 17:13

Christ. If I'd had time to look at this shit when i was working my manager would have found me some actual work to do!

Judellie · 16/01/2025 17:17

And we wonder why people don't speak to each other any more.........!

WhereYouLeftIt · 16/01/2025 17:27

Sounds like your company is somewhat behind the curve. Whilst neopronouns were a bit of a 'thing' a couple of years ago, they seem to have been dropped somewhat more recently. Definitely not "gaining traction"!

"This gem came around work today and we are expected to follow with a straight face."
Who did it come from? HR? Some special interest 'group'? I'd be throwing it back to HR, particularly that link to Kinkly, who seem to be a retailer of sex toys. A very unprofessional link to send out.

I would certainly not be using neopronouns - but then I very much doubt the situation would arise in the first place (unless you have a colleague who likes to shit-stir).

godmum56 · 16/01/2025 17:33

who sent it? respond saying "great joke but should you be sending jokes out in work time?"
