Friend wants top surgery

One of my closest friends is saying they are non binary and has changed their name. I have gone along the route of not making it a big deal, like "ah that's nice pal, which film shall we go to see this weekend."
I don't know if this is the right tactic. I have been vocal about the fact that I don't understand why we would be boxing gender into stereo types- ie. Makeup and high heels does not a woman make. You can wear masculine looking clothes and still be a woman. Etc.

They now are saving for top surgery. Should I just keep with my current tactic? Im worried about side effects? They aren't on any hormones.

I just feel a bit like it's getting away from them, the name change etc has been very quick after announcing they are non binary.

I'm also a bit sad if I have the right to feel that.

"(regardless of whether the surgical outcomes are "better" or less painful than for breast cancer surgery)"

I just don't think that any cancer surgeon would let a patient leave the operating table like this. However, this is gender affirming care and here are some of the worst operations I have seen. One long scar (with terrible scarring that makes me wonder about the aftercare - or lack of it) and bad nipple placement. Horribly concave areas where the breasts were. 'Gathered' skin due to what? I'm going to guess wanting the money and not giving a shit about the patient. The nipples also look dead/dying.

The first two images are pro trans advertising images. The second two were posted to social media by the patients themselves.

I'm not any kind of expert but that long scar looks a bit like keloid scarring - something which this individual, being young and presumably from an ethnic background that is more prone to them, should have been assessed for risk-wise.

The concave chest shocks me even more. Again not an expert, but that looks like it'll restrict her ability to lift her arms long into the future. The scars appear to go right up past the armpits. Is this normal for a mastectomy?

Regardless of whether you approve of an individual's "right" to this kind of elective surgery, anyone with eyes can see these two women were horribly failed by their surgeons.

That's horrific! To call it butchery would insult butchers, who could do a far neater job. The incision placements are all wrong, the stitching is terrible, every one of them has random lumps of breast tissue left in bizarre places.

Those surgeons need their licences revoked, and a lifetime ban on holding anything sharper than a wooden spoon.

Just to say, while I don't have the puckering, my post breast cancer surgery chest is concave. And no, I don't think it's attractive either. In my case, better than the alternative.
